A lover of one's people. Wanting to protect the freedoms and liberties of one's own people. True patriotism, does not necessarily mean loving the government ruling over one's people, but it can. In some cases, when a government is tyrannical, it means working against the government to defend the people of your land, your creed, your heritage. This is a very forgotten and confused concept, but patriotism is so important. It is the mechanism of liberty.

To me, a patriot is someone who stands up for what they believe is best for their fellow countrymen. The Soldier who goes to war to defend his country is a patriot. Also, the anti-war protester who objects to the war because it places young men and women in harms way for no reason is a patriot. They have completely opposing views, and one would probably call the other a traitor, but they both love their country and are trying to make things better for their fellow citizens.

The will to preserve integrity in the ideals and values held true, defended, and instilled in a people. Patriots know the foundations of society and knowingly put these ideals above themselves.

If this country were invaded by any other country I would defend it with my life. I would fight to my death for this country.
Does that make me a "insurgent" or a "terrorist"?
I would be part of the "resistance"
I would never burn the flag, I would also never take away your right of protest.
I pray in school and State Buildings, I would not take away your right to protest my voice, if you did not share "MY" God.
It also means to "protect and defend" the Constitution, not rape it as Republicans are doing.
