We ARE the common ancestors. The common ancestors of which you speak evolved (gradually changed) into our present incarnation. Its kind of like saying that I used to be a child and now that I am a man where did the child go? I evolved from early childhood just as present day man evolved from your "common ancestors."

there are common ancestors just not enough common sense and plenty of ignorance, if Japanese can trace thier ancestry today back to the fuedal days to common ancestors then we should be able top also, but our bureaucracies recordkeeping skills are inferior to theirs

Because they were in direct competition with US , homo-sapiens.

Think about it, we evolved from them so both species occupied the same territory. We, with our superior intellects, basically cornered them out of the market.
