it lowers your inhibitions. when you worry about things then your confidence will be low,
when you have had a drink you dont worry so much and your confidence is lifted.

you need to find a way of doing this without the drink though!

All the above answers are true. However, over time if used as a way to regularly boost confidence or lower anxiety - it will make you more anxious.

For example, you drink to lose anxiety but over time your body becomes used to the alcohol and it takes more than before to have a similar effect. Then after a little more time your body becomes reliant on the alcohol such that your constantly anxious (more than ever before) unless you have consumed a large amount of alcohol.

It is a vicious circle - so don't overuse it!

Alcohol deadens your inhibitions. Also is works in crazy ways in teenagers than in adults. This is why when you're drunk or have been drinking you think you can conquer the world--do anything you want to. Makes you less afraid to face someone that you're usually not confident around. Many people think that alcohol is a stimulant--actually it's a depressant--it depresses your body reflexes and thinking.

Alcohol relaxes you and stops your inhibitions. Thus you feel more confident but you are not totally in control and it is really not the best time to make important decisions.

hi,

Yes alcohol does give you a false sense of "confidence"because it lowers your inhibitions..and leads one to a sense of security. This is why it is so addictive to some people, more so in todays society when we live in an ever more stressful enviorment..If one drinks to relieve anxiety, then this is a sure down ward slippery slope to alcohol problems, there is plenty one can do to reduce stress..for instance "Bach Flower remedy"..Valarian..or just a good walk as a regular daily routine.
