This question has been asked many times, so I've formulated my standard answer. Here it is:
Picture quality of plasma is brighter, better color, better blacks than LCD. (There is something about looking directly at glowing phosphors!)
Sharpness is the same for equivalent pixel counts. Some newer LCDs have 1080 x 1920 resolution, most plasmas still in the 720 x 1280 range.
Plasma is heavier and uses more power than flat panel LCD.
There are reports that plasmas are not as reliable or they don't last as long, but that is no longer true with the latest models. Plasma phosphors dim slowly over time (but not as fast as CRT phosphors); but direct view LCDs use flourescent lamps which also dim and eventually burn out (some are replaceable). Projection LCD sets have bulbs of limited life, but are replaceable and the lifetime is a few thousand hours of viewing.
Plasmas are subject to burn-in. A stationary image left on the screen for a long time could produce a permanent ghost image. The most risk is when viewing a lot of 4:3 ratio pictures (non-HD), which are displayed with vertical dark areas on the left and right to fill in the wide screen. There are ways to minimize this, however. many sets have a "stretch" mode which widens the picture to fill the whole screen. This could also be a problem with extended playing of video games if there is a background image that remains stationary.
Plasmas come in largers sizes, although large flat panel LCDs are coming out, but they are expensive. LCD projectors can be 70".
LCD contrast and brightness can be reduced when viewing from off-center (both flat and projector, but sets will vary).
As to where to get the TV, most stores will match any currently advertised price; I would prefer to get the TV from a store that will respond if you need help or if you have problems. I would look into Magnolia or Anderson's as they have good service and return policies.

the main, noticable difference between the 2 is the price. a 30" plasma will cost a few thousand dollars whereas a 30" LCD tv will only cost about $1200. plasma TVs on the other hand, capture a world of High-def like nothing else. LCD TVs do have HD(high definition) but the overall sharpness of the picture isn't as good. Its kind of like a window, you could get a cheap window like economy glass or you could spend quite a bit more and get something a crystal window. the difference, quality over economy, so if you have the spare money for it, the plasma is a better option, but if it's a bit too much $$ for you, then the LCD will do everything the plasma will with less money but you will also lose some quality in the process, the LCD still produces a high quality picture, just not as high as plasma. On the topic of buying them, if you have an "Ultimate Electronics" near your house, then i'd suggest get one there because they have the largest selection of both LCD and plasma TVs. if not, then the next best place would be Best Buy because of their low prices and a very helpful and informative staff, especially now that they have teamed up with Geek Squad, the service and support group for electronics, they are always there in every department. I wish you good luck in finding the right TV for you!!!

LCD has a greater photo and a greater existence span. Plasma is designed for looking from a distance. I might reccomend a LG LCD reveal HD capable. A little extra pricey than a plasma however greater in the end

Well Plasmas tend to get burn in are much much heavier but however you can get them at much larger sizes. LCD tvs usually tend to be smaller sizes yet are less heavy and they do not burn in. Do it depends... oh and yea... id buy one at frys aint nuthin wrong with that.
