It's sad our society has done this. Finding the right bathing suit may help. Something that slims her figure. The tankini is a wonderful choice, or maybe something with a pretty wrap around sarong. This site has some great stuff in all sizes, hope it helps. Good Luck !

Is she too fat? and you are trying to be the nice parent by telling her she isn't or she looks fine? How times do you hit the drive through at McDonald's? Are you trying to put her in a two piece bikini? or Thong? You should let her pick out her own bathing suit. If likes the one she picks out then maybe you could get her into it. Ask her why she thinks she's fat? cause she has some stick figured girlfriends. So if you are any but 2 dimensional then you are considered fat? I bet a lot of it is her so called friends.

Give her tips on how she could improve her appearance, but be sure to not make her feel like she needs to improve herself. Reassure her that it's all in her head and that she looks beautiful. Also, she doesn't -have- to wear a bathing suit to go swimming. Swim shorts and a tank top are just as comfortable and show less skin, so an outfit like that may make her feel better about herself. There are alot of combinations of outfits that are cute and make the wearer look good without being skin tight and showy like swimsuits, believe it or not.

Always focus on being healthy, not fat or thin - when talking about anyone including yourself. Take her shopping for a suit and find one that does not emphasize her percieved trouble spots. Some girls get extra sensative about their morphing bodies at this age. If she's more comfortable wearing a t-shirt over the suit that's fine - as long as she can go swimming and have fun.

Is she too fat? If not, then she has a body image problem. Consult a therapist. On the other hand why do you want to FORCE her to go out in a bathing suit? Hmmm.

Respect her feelings, try to make her feel better about herself, but if she isn't comfortable in a bathing suit, let her go out in shorts and a shirt.

Tell her that *you're* going out to have some fun...she can either stay home (with a babysitter, if necessary), or come with you. You'd be amazed how fast kids get over hangups when those are the options..

Tell her that baby fat is only normal to have and sometimes we outgrow it as we get older. All children have this. For some it takes longer than others.

If she is overweight, tell her you think she's very beautiful, but if she wants to get healthier and feel better, you two can start exercising together and planning healthy meals together.
It'll bond you two more, she'll like that you want to do it with her, and that it's good to do things that are healthy for you.
