the second run of the salmon is happening currently my friend. you can catch salmon in Anchorage (Ship Creek near downtown). The Russian River/Kenai is a GREAT spot to go (sorry can't tell you about the honey hole).

I have never been to Montana Creek, (North of Wasilla about 1 1/2 from Anchorage) but I hear good things.

Homer is by far the best place to go for halibut (halibut capital of the world) can get windy there this time of year.

don't forget these essentials
BUG Repellent (you may thank me)
rain gear (again, you will thank me)
milepost (guide book-check Barnes and Noble)
lots of layers.

have fun!
