For instance, I accidentily bumped him with my ring and there was no injury of any kind, no scratch, no bruise and yet he called my attention to it and talked about it like it was a big deal. He is a big, stong healthy man and we otherwise have a good relationship but these kinds of things have happened enough that I have grown reluctant to touch him for fear of hurting him.

Entrapment isn't quite the right word, but that's what came to mind when I read this. It sounds to me like he wants to keep you dominated and fearful that you'll do something wrong like what's evidentally happened to you. Don't let him push you around and stand up for yourself.
There's a time for gentle responses and there's times where you just need to hold your ground and tell him what's what. If he does it again, don't appologise, tell him to knock it off and grow up. If he doesn't like you and threatens to leave, don't cower under it and give in. That will just give him more power as he obviously desires. The problem is, he's acting like a little kid. Once he's found out that when he whines about something and gets what he wants, he knows what to do next time.

My hunch is he wants more attention. He wants to be mommied, coddled, sexed, etc. You need to choose if you want to play into that and give him attention or not. If you give him more attention, one of two things will happen:
Your relationship will become more involved, more secure and you'll be happier. Or.....
He will develop into a nutcase. But if he's going to develop into a nutcase that will probably happen no matter what you do.

It means he's a typical man and has to exaggerate everything, just tell him to grow up or ask him if he wants his dummy to make the boo boo all better. He should eventualy get the hint.

Is he a hypochondriac as well? Maybe he just likes the attention. I don't know. Maybe he's just messing with your head. If he keeps doing it, just tell him to quit whining and take it like a man :D

I think maybe he is looking for some sympathy and attention from you. In my experience, that is why my husband whines about small things. LOL

He wants more attention from you. He wants you to pant like a doggie whenever he calls you. He wants you to beg for everything from him. It makes him feel like he is Master and your the pet.

Gawd, what a guy!

I dated a guy like that once, and it drove me crazy.

Listening to him whine about his supposed "injuries" was such a major turn-off that I had to dump him.

Partner in business? Maybe he's looking for a reason to sue you! I don't know. I'm not sure why he would be doing that.
