As a young catholic child I recall staring at Jesus on the cross in church in between sitting and standing and sitting and standing....and I never could make myself buy into it- does this mean I am pagan. Does evil really run through my veins?

When I was younger I hoped there was a God but He wasn't real.
As I got older I believed there wasn't a God.
When I was mature, I was broken hearted and had a sincere desire to know the truth.
I prayed and God sent me the truth. Now I am brain washed, washed clean from the blood and sins of this generation. Everything has opposition, you need to sift through the experiences you have and find the truth.
When you say brain washed it really takes power away from people. Do you really think people are weak. We make choices, we are not forced to believe in God, that is ridiculous. The statement comes from a powerless perspective. With God all things are possible.
Your salvation is between you and God only. I hope you figure it out.

Mostly agree. When I was young, I didn't go to church much. Just Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Now I think I've lost my religion a little. When life gets hard I often think things would just be easier if I was religious. You know, the whole "put your faith in God and He will take care of you." It makes me wonder if my lack of church-going as a child resulted in my lack of faith, since my mom and sister as well as most of my friends are Christians. I don't think there is any way to find out for sure, so we just have to deal with whats happening at present.
Hope I was some help to you.

Like sexual orientation, verbal behavior/language/vocabulary, and several other attributes of human behavior it appears that people become locked into one or another ways of behaving at an early age, probably before puberty. Once they become locked into that behavior form it appears that they don't change the rest of their life.
Beliefs and some basic world views appear to be in that group that people get locked into.
Brainwashed is not the best descriptive word to use as it implies that they had a set of ideas of beliefs before that were changed by indoctrination. They probably didn't have any coherent beliefs before. Since beliefs are a way of showing membership in a society, group, tribe, or culture, the indoctrination is done at a fairly early age, before the child becomes locked in beliefs that might be more universal than what their membership declares.
Even if the person does change their beliefs at a later age, they typically never feel entirely comfortable with their change. That is because the locking process is not something that can be willingly changed any more than someone can easily change their sexual orientation. It usually takes an extra ordinary person to give up beliefs imposed upon them as a child.
Most new religions come from people who were not effectively locked into the membership of some older religion for one reason or another. It is an indication of the instability of beliefs when a lot of new religions develop, as is characteristic of today's world. Beliefs become unstable when those beliefs are challenged by science or cultures. For example fundamentalism around the world in all religions appears to be seriously challenged and is reacting in aggressive and hostile ways. This causes an increase in the population of fundamentalist but is actually just the beginning phase of its disintegration and death. It will probably take at least 100 years for the death to fundamentalism in all religions to occur and it is occurring on a massive world scale. It will be replaced with religions that don't try to complete with science or democracy.

First thing first, religion means belief, everyone even if you don't believe in God and I can "prove" you do is a religion, second we live in a world where there is a 100% death rate, and in case you are not into math, that means you. "IF" you love me keep my commandments" You and I are in our own graves as we speak, you have a designer, someone who put you together, and to whom yoiu will answer too, that is a matter of fact not brainwashing, now satan wants to brainwash you to do nothing until you die and your ability to seek God and find Him when you seek Him with ALL your heart is passed away forever. Pray about this, free bible lessons www.itiswritten.com God bless ya

Evil runs through my veins just as much as it does through yorus. We are all of an evil nature.
Anyways, moving past that comment...I am a Christian and I believe because I choose to. I truly believe what I have read in the Bible and what others have taught me. My parents took me to church and taught me what they could, but they never forced their beliefs upon me. Therefore, I disagree...in case I had yet to make myself clear.

I disagree.
A proper exposure to God and religion can help to counteract the real brainwashing that popular culture is constantly throwing at all of us in books, movies, TV, songs, advertisements, and even video games.
A few of the these immoral behaviors include:
- Anger and Violence
- Lust and Sex (outside of marriage)
- A disrepect for lawful authority
- Envy, greed and consumerism
- Drugs including smoking and alcohol
- Vanity
- Prejudice and hate
I think that if we expose our children to all this immorality without the moral anchor of God and religion "until they can come to a conclusion of their own" then we would be irresponsible, unwise, and frequently too late.
With love in Christ.

well I wasn't ,I mean my parents didn't force me into religion and what they believed(although they are very religious ppl, they just wanted me to find my own way) and I didn't care that much at that time, but now that I am older and I realize the facts myself,so I wasn't brainwashed .I really got to it by studying all the religions (by all I mean most and the ones I thought have something to say)
and some thing else I am not Christian nor Catholic.

"The term "brainwashing" is not widely used in psychology and other sciences, because of its vagueness and history of being used in propaganda, not to mention its association with hysterical fears of people being taken over by foreign ideologies. It is often more helpful to analyze "brainwashing" as a combination of manipulations to promote persuasion and attitude change ,propaganda ,coercion ,capture-bonding , and restriction of access to neutral sources of information. "
From Wikipedia, I don't know if there are many religions or organizations that do ALL of the things for it to be accurately called "brainwashing." Maybe there are a few, but I think most of us (even kids) have plenty of access to neutral information.

I totally agree. Religion was invented by man to control others, and they try to do this from an early age. In terms of religion, like the Roman Catholics, its so they can make money out of people from an early age
