This doesn't really answer the question, but other people are responding saying they were slaves. This information has actually been proven false. It has been proven that Jews were never slaves, they were actually payed to work for the Pharoah. They were kind of like construction workers. Also, there was proof that when the Jews tried to leave Egypt, they ransacked an Egyptian village and took all of their belongings and killed all of the villagers. So, if you ask me, the Jews were the wrong-doers. Dont believe I am an anti-semite, for I am myself a Jew as well.

They went to Egypt for bread cause there was a famine in all the land, only Egypt has bread. I'm sure it was the plan of God to make the Children of Israel slaves of the Egyptians just as He promised their fathers or Abraham.

Shechem is where they were from. Some in Dothan.

There was a severe famine there and 75 of the family of Israel went to Egypt.
Acts 7:14 "And Joseph sent word and invited Jacob his father and all his relatives to come to him, seventy-five persons in all.

Joseph was a son of the family and had risen to power in Egypt.
So when his family got there they were treated well.
Then power changed, Joseph died and the new Pharaoh enslaved the children of Israel.

There they were kept for a long time.
When they left, there were over 600,000.

They were not originally Egyptian.

Jacob (aka Israel) had many sons, the favored whose name was Joseph was hated by his brothers. Eventually, Joseph's brothers sold him as a slave. He ended up as a servant in the household of Potipher. Through some wrongful accusations, he found himself in prison. God gave him the ability to interpret dreams. Eventually, he interpretted Pharaoh's dream of a seven year famine that followed seven years of plentiful harvest. Upon this realization, Pharoah made Joseph "second in command." As the famine worked its course, Joseph's brothers were sent to Egypt to get food. Joseph recognized them, and eventually the whole family moved to Egypt. The people grew and grew until there were a whole whole bunch of them. A different Pharoah worried about them trying to take over, so he put them into captivity. Then comes Moses, the 7 plagues, 40 years wandering in the desert, and, the Promised Land.

No, they weren't originially Egyptian.

The Hebrews saw the Egyptians Building Pyramids during the 40 years of wandering.he told them we have nothing to do with them, But later the Hebrew Children became Slaves to the Pharaoh, And Moses went to set them free . so I expect by that time there were a lot of Egyptian and Hebrew blood Mixed. and as you see on the map they are not that far apart.

They originally lived in Canaan, that is, Jacob (aka: Israel) and his twelve sons. After being sold into Egypt as a slave, one son, Joseph rose to be Pharoah's advisor. During a time of famine he had his father and brothers brought to Egypt to save their lives, where he and his eleven brothers' lineages eventually grew into the twelve tribes of Israel that Moses led on the Exodus.

They went there in the famine. Remember Joseph was set up as a ruler in order to prepare for the famine. The Jews were separate from the Egyptians.

Not originally Egyptian. If I'm not mistaken, Abraham moved his family there. Generations later Moses and Joshua led them back to the promised land.
