Dont do ANYTHING with red unless you're sure, REALLY sure. If you think your hair looks orange now, wait until your red fades. You need constant touch ups (remember your roots will grow out), and the color will fade quickly, making it appear dull and...well, orange.
If you like your hair color but dislike the orange tint, try using a shampoo specially designed for removing that hue. They tint the hair and combat the undesired color by applying the color directly across from it on the color wheel (for instance, when i went from brunette back to m ynautral blonde, i had to bleach all the way down and use blue/violet to get rid of the "red/orange" stage my hair went through during bleaching).
If you plan on doing this yourself, go to your local beauty supply store. They can help you pick a color, and tell you what kind of developers you need to get the right effect. You might need to add toner to the color, too - this will help "tone" your color...
Whatever you do, read up first, talk to a professional if you can, and keep the permanent stuff as a last resort!
Try the new John frieda glaze, or a toning shampoo/conditioner. Whatever you do, a good deep conditioning treatment will be necessary since changing the color means putting stress on your hair. Check out john friedas "blonde" line if you decide to go lighter (your light brown might be considered dark blonde! Honey/Caramel) They have many serums and a good product called "Dream Cream" which can help to add elasticity and life back into your hair. They also have a deep condition treatment in a tub thats very useful.
Biolage Deep Conditioning Balm, kerasilk deep conditioner leave in treatment, and Biolage detanger are amongst the many great products that will make your hair better than its ever been..
If you're due for a cut, get your hair trimmed first - there will be less of it to color and worry about later.
Goodluck!! Don't jump in to anything!

Aha! Someone else with the same color as me.
It all depends on your skin color. I have light skin and I can get away pretty easily with auburn hair. As long as it's a color found in nature. I.E. don't go for a red that's got purple or very orangey (not orange like your real color) hints in it. A nice light auburn should do. Try the Light Auburn from Revlon. That was the most natural looking color I ever did and it was still close to my real color so it went well with my skin. Chances are it should with you as well.

If you are up for a change, I honestly would have a professional hair dresser do it at a high end salon that the person only does coloring. Sometimes, a professionals opinion can really help you make the right decision because they see so many clients. I approached my hair color this way and it really helped so much. I work in a profession that I am constantly in front of people so first impressions are lasting.

Think of not dying it. How about chunking it with blonde and or copper highlights. Then decide. Going for a complete hair color change you could lose some of you natural highlights and may turn out a color you don't like. Good luck

If you like your hair keep it. If you rn't satisfied w/ it, try going a shade lighter or darker before you do anything drastic, because a similar color might satisfy.

I would go with a light ash brown or mediam probly. Then I would do golden Hilights not blond or white. Or you could just do HEAVY Brown Ash LoLights that would look so very good!!!

auburn is a very pretty color I say go for it. Just remember red colors fade faster so you'll have to care for it in order to keep the color longer
