Well, I think the right age to start dating is around 15 - 16, although obviously different people mature at different rates mentally and physically and so can become frustrated by the age constraints on activities they are allowed to do and are often curious, their hormones are raging and they think they know it all and at this point in their life are most likely to do crazy things and worry about the conaequences later.

But dating subsumes a whole range of activities and implications - in other words when you start dating you need to consider a lot of things because one thing leads to another, and the basis on which the appropriate age for dating is judged is how ready the person is to deal with those implications or experiences.

The right age to start dating is when your parents have fully informed you about sex, about sexually transmitted diseases, the consequences of certain acts and actions and when you yourself are in a mental position to make responsible and informed decisions about your body and relationships. SO IN OTHER WORDS - you are ready for dating WHEN you know NOT TO HAVE SEX AT YOUR AGE - for any reason, otherwise you are not ready because you are not fully aware - and to wait it out for either marriage (really the best choice) or the right person at a much much later date ( Age 18 - experienced and consenting adults).

When you are a free and independently thinking individual who cannot be coerced into doing things against your will or used, and then regret it later.

It depends entirely on the circumstances ofcourse, and innocent dating at a younger age which is supervised by parents or adults to see just how far it is going, and to make sure it doesn't go too far is ok - i mean even little kids sometimes have girl/boyfriends in the 3rd Grade when they still think 'kissing is gross'...what ya gona do? - But to officially start dating lets say its safe at 16 for the majority of people because they have matured enough mentally to know when to say 'no' (but still require some guidance), what consequences are and when to listen to adult advice.
