what software are you scanning it with?

As you did not post the warning, I can onlu guess..
Probably a spyware program that pops up a fake virus warning and then wants you to buy the program to remove the virus.

Download and run both Ad-aware and Skybot Seek&Destroy. As they use different list for what they consider spyware, one may get something the mother misses. You can get them both free from download.com.

If the warning does not go away after that, please post the warning so we can take a better guess

To scare you, it could a deep registry warning, I bought Toolkit Registry for $29.95, and use it on all my computers. Just write down the key they send you and you can reuse it over and over.

Its probably just spyware or greyware. Quarantine them or use another spyware program to remove them. Check out SpyBot.

It would help if you would tell us what operating system, and what virus program. You have essentially asked the "My car won't start, why not?" question.
