Just change extension from .dat to .avi or .mpg

.dat -- is data file, i don't think you will be able to retrieve videos from that kind of file. Some one probable renamed the regular file with this extension, so you have to rename it back to the correct extension.

I don't think you can. You MAY be able to open it through an application like windows media player but i doubt it.
