When the slaves from Africa were brought to America, they were disconnected from their homeland and roots. These slaves were forced to leave behind their culture and adapt the ways of their masters. Slaves adopted their master's last name (like branding cattle) and they were forced to believe in the religion of thier masters (Christianity). The reason this was done was because the depictions of Jesus were white, and since god was white, that meant that white people were in the image of god or gods themselves. This message was put uopn slaves with violence and even death for 400 years. Now look what we have today. Black Chrsitians who love Christianity (a tool of spiritual oppression on their anceters). The black Christian has within themself a contradiction which can never really be solved. To accept Christianity is to accept slavery, and to say christianity is good is to say slavery was good because you can't have 1 without the other. No black person would ever say slavery was good!

Absolutely. The slavers kidnapped them, indentured them, abused them and robbed them of their liberty. And as a final punishment and tool of control, they imposed their belief system on them.

Sections of the church have, since then, been instrumental in the liberation of African Americans from this evil.

However, that does not change the fact that despite their weapon turned upon them, the persecutors have nonetheless left christianity as their mark upon African Americans...

We, as humans, are free to choose whatever we want. If we wish to change religions or to stop practicing a religion the way we did in the past, then we can. No one can force anyone to practice a religion. Even when the slaves were brought from Africa, some of them may have faked practicing a certain religion for reasons of safety or to make someone happy. But if you don't want to be a Christian, no one can make you one. It's the same with the slaves that were taken to the Caribbean or to South America, where most of them ended up, by the way. There are many different religions practiced in those places that the slaves probably faked too, for safety. But again, if you don't want a certain religion, in your heart, no one can make you accept it.

Some good points. Also many slaves converted to their owners faith just so they would be treated a little better. These poor people had to fake their convictions so they wouldn't be mistreated by Christian slave owners...pathetic.

Edit - I can't believe what that chick 43 said above me. Does that sound like she's saying slavery was a good thing, that the ends justifies the means?? Does that mean it was gods will? She said he works in mysterious ways. That's even more pathetic

You should know this. Had it not been for Slavery, I know was the most horrible thing in the history of The USA. The ancestors of those Black American Slaves would be in the Sudan or worse today, Every Ancestor of those Slaves , should Thank the Lord they are in this blessed land , even if they were forced here.God works in mysterious ways.

You can't have one without the other? Puhleeze. That's a gigantic stretch and totally illogical.

We are no longer in the days of black slavery and I for one think that black people are MORE than capable of making the decisions of their religious convictions for themselves.

You are making the assumption that these people are still enslaved by their beliefs and not intelligent enough to choose. I contend that they have both the freedom and the intellectual reasoning capacity to make this decision for themselves.

Better voiced question than the one I posted yesterday. It just doesn't make sense to believe in the faith of one's oppressors!

Better to deal with a faith I freely choose...

"This day I have perfected your religion. It is Islam"

-Holy Qur'an

P.S - Some slaves disguised Ifa as christianity (which some here know as Santeria, vodun or Hoodoo)
