This is very hard sometimes, and often times I am faced with the same problem of not having much friends to talk to, but my advice to you is just be yourself.. Think positive and get out of that shy shell, just show people who you are, and let them see your talents... I know it's hard, but with practice you can do it.

You're interested in politics, so yea.. talk to them more about politics and bring a newspaper with you, and talk to them.. if you forget what to talk about, just read an article out loud to them, and discuss it in your own words.

So yea, those are some tips, but buy some self help books on confidence or look up online to improve on being social.

1) Brush up on local topics. Be certain to be knowledgeable about the issues people will be discussing. The higher your comfort level with a subject, the better at discussing it you will be!

2) Have a drink or two to loosen up. I am NOT suggesting you get completely wasted before the event. I am suggesting that a drink or two makes most of us feel a bit more social and loose.

3) Suck it up. On the days that I don't even want to leave the house due to the way I look or feel I always just buck up by telling yself, "There is nothing more you can do. You are the best you." And believe it. You have done everything you canl to be "pleasing" to others. There is nothing else you can do.

4) Pretend to be someone else. You are no longer Joe Schmoe. You are Joe Campaign-Man. This is an entirely different person who schmoozes and chats with ease. It sounds stupid but sometimes this totally works.

5) Do not stand alone. If you find yourself standing alone, you need to suck it up and go find someone to chat with. You are doing this for your job!!! Just find someone else who is alone and say, "Hi, I'm Joe Campaign-Man. Do you know (the candidate)? What do you think about the whole sales tax raise?"

GOOD LUCK!!!

I find that Reps and Dems are both the logical conclusions based on different sets of assumptions.
Think about where you stand. Ask yourself:

- Why did tribes of families come together to form governments? What benefit did they see?
- What do you think the government should do for us now?
- How should power be granted and divided?
- What is the nature of man?

If you have a firm foundation for your beliefs, you can speak on the subject much more comfortably and be more social.

If you are the shy, quiet type, start by just saying Hello, or smiling. You will definitely be in the right place to talk politics, so talk them up! Introduce yourself, listen to their views for a while, then add yours. Get them in your comfort field and I bet your won't feel so bad.

If you need to take a good friend with you that is just the opposite of you. Someone that is very sociable that you feel comfortable taking along. Let them break the ice for you. I think that is why my husband married me. He is just like you and I am just the opposite. He takes me to events to get him started because I am accustomed to talking to strangers because I work as a volunteer museum docent.

P.S. No offence intended, but you might want to work on your spelling partner. You will get further with effective grammar skills . Good Luck with your internship!
