On several occasions, guys have thought that I was flirting with them when I was only being friendly. Is the idea of a platonic friendship between members of the opposite sex a foreign concept to these guys? Also, is it just another indication that guys are an egotistical bunch of wankers?

It's less ego than wishful thinking. Also, males aren't as good at reading signals, and they have trouble thinking through a haze of hormones. We get ticked off at them, but we should just pity them. The truth is, unless they see a woman as undesirable, they can't get past their programming. Even then, they have a very different definition of friendship from females. After many years' experience, I find that very few, and often gay, guys are able to be platonic friends.

Platonic friendships between guys and girls only exists between siblings. No matter what you think, all your guy friends want to sleep with you--they're just too wimpy to try it outright.

Also, the less attention a guy usually gets from a woman and the more desperate a guy is, the more likely he'll interpret ANY attention as a sign of interest since he doesn't get it that often. To him, it'll seem like a rare opportunity and he'll get all weird. The best way to avoid all this is to state everything outright at the beginning or avoid giving these types of guys attention in the first place.

Because girls act friendly when they are flirting. If women were better at saying what was actually on their mind insted of making us try and read your mind, it would take a lot of the guesswork out of it.

I think the other reason is the fact the guy is receiving positive attention...regardless of the message being sent, the message received can be something different. When a guy gets attention, he thinks he may have a chance...wheteher he does or doesn't, most guys will put forth an effort if they are remotely interested in something more.

The idea of platonic friendship between members of the opposite sex is a foreign concept to heterosexual males. This is because the nature of males is to procreate and their urges sometimes overrule their societal training.

Well some of it is probably due to misinterpreting signals. I think a lot of guys think women must be flirting with them simply because women tend not to simply talk with them unless they want something. Perhaps if women just chatted with guys more there would be less confusion as to whether flirting was going on or not.

I totally agree. They probably want you. But they know deep down your not interested so they make it up in there head oh she wants me. allot of men are like that but i think there is a fine line between friendly and flirting some men and women send the signals and not even know it.

Listen tangerine all men do that, if they dont then they will probably be pretending. IF a woman is really good looking you cant expect a guy to hide it in.

By the way you are good looking arent you? That could be another reason.=)

Probably the same reason women think a guy is hitting on them when he's merely trying to be friendly.

The world is just so full of uncomfortable people we have to walk on eggshells around each other.

Because guys think their so hot and sexy. Well to me they are not, not at all. And maybe you were being a little to friendly. They all think there things are better then anyone elses, and they all think women just adore there things. Plus there just natural Per**s.
