My puppy is 5 months old. I just noticed a tooth fell out. Do they grow new teeth like we do?

Yes, it is normal. I didn't realize this with my puppy and was scared when I noticed blood on his fur. I checked him out all over the place, but realized it was a tooth (which I found later). He managed to swallow a few too - that's ok too. The tooth dissolves..

Check my 360 page for a picture of my baby :-)

Yes, just like humans, dogs have baby teeth. They will fall out starting with the incisors (front center) and will be replaced with larger adult teeth. Many owners never actually see the pups lose the teeth and assume they swallowed them. The period when the puppy is getting its adult teeth is when they chew the most, so make sure your pup has plenty of appropriate things to chew on or all your shoes will be destroyed. Your dog may leave blood on things when teeth come out, which is nothing to worry about unless the bleeding doesn't stop. It can also be painful for the puppy, so things like ice and frozen treats as well as baby aspirin (talk to your vet before giving ANY meds) can make it easier on them. Puppy teeth are often called razor teeth because they are so sharp, so most owners are happy when their pups have all of their adult teeth and the mouthing stops. This period should end by about 6 months.

yes they do grow new teeth, don't worry about your puppy, it is a stage and many more teeth will be falling out. When I first got my dog I used to find her teeth everywhere around the house and once I found one in my sock!

yes--it is his big teeth growing in and his baby teeth fall out. Just like humans. It's no big deal unless you see something unusual.
