The dog should match where you are living (big yard, small yard, good fenece, so-so fence). You need a dog that fits your lifestyle. Do you get outside and exercise?, then a dog that can go running or walking with you. If you tend to spend most your time inside then a smaller dog that can be happy running around the house. Whatever dog you decide on, research the breed before you buy one. Labs are good, but have a ton of energy and must have a job or they will chew on anything and everything.
Research...research....research... don't just get a dog on a whim... make sure you can give the dog the best life possible and he/she will provide you with years of love and affection.

I would say that is an individual choice depending on your situation. I would suggest going to your local SPCA and visiting with the dogs until you find one that clicks with you. Take into account your living space as far as size goes. I like females because I have lots of flowers and the males tend to urinate on them, but I have known and pet-sat for some wonderful male dogs. So it is really a personal choice. Some dogs need more grooming. Do you have the money or time for this? I love to brush my pets when I am relaxing but maybe you don't. I hope this helps you a little.

Too general a question. Do your homework and research dogs that will suit your lifestyle. Is your property large enough for a large dog to receive enough exercise? Do you have young children? A high energy dog will require allot of attention and walks or could destroy your home. Base your decision on all the factors that define your lifestyle. Do you travel allot? Will you be gone much of the day? There is a perfect dog for every situation and you just need to do your research.

I love chihuahuas! I also love boxers ( really affectionate and funny dogs ), dobermans, and german shepherds. I would just search on google "Dog Breed Selectors". The websites that come up are tests that choose the best dog for your lifestyle. Dont just take advice from people on Yahoo because those are their personal references. Good luck!

It really depends on you. If you want a watchdog, then get a big one. If you want that you can bring around all the time, get a smaller dog like a chihuahua or cocker spaniel.

It depends on the person. Frankly I prefer mutts. Less health problems. If you get a dog from the pound, they seem to be better pets because that experience seems to haunt them.

There is no just one "best dog in the world". Everyones dog is the "best dog". Go to a shelter, once you find him/her, (or sometimes they find you!) That pup will be "your" best dog in the world!
