Absolutely. If you doubt this, I'll put it in context you might be able to handle. What if your neighbor shot out your windows two or three times a month? And then was yelling threats about killing you and your entire family? And you could not move. What would you do?

At the end of this post is a web site you should go to. It is a former PLO terrorists web site who is now a Christian American. He'll give you some ideas about what radical Islamic extremeism is about:

I wish I had written the following but I didn't. It was written by EDDie. I agree totally what he has said. I don't think he'll mind me passing it along.

begin EDDie post:
Israel wants peace and recognition of its existence. The Muslim extremists, including Syria and Iran regimes want Israel wiped off the face of the earth, and have repeatedly said so. Israel has absolutely no interest in claiming Lebanon, or any other Arab country.

I don't know about you, but when you hear a leader of a regime (Iran) inciting hate and claiming his intentions, he and his regime must be taken out (if the world would have done so with Hitler, there would not have been a Holocaust or WWII).

Let me also remind you how this current situation began:

BUT FOR Hezbollah going on Israeli soil, killing 8 and kidnapping 2 Israeli soldiers, Israel would not be on the offensive to destory Hezbollah. This is not a war on Lebanon. It is a war on Hezbollah and its backers (Syria and Iran). Since the Lebanese army that numbers about 150,000 soldiers is unwilling and/or unable to remove Hezbollah's 5,000 terrorists, Israel will.

The situation is tragic over there, but it is Lebanon's fault for not protecting itself and exercising its sovereign right against a militia, a terrorist group in control of parts of its country.

Unfortunately for the Lebanese civilians, Hezbollah embeds itself, and launches rockets within residential areas. Israel has warned in advance to allow people to leave, but Hezbollah uses many civilians as human shield. Israel tries as best as possible to avoid killing civilians, while Hezbollah and other terrorist groups are intentionally targeting Israeli civilians, and only apologize if they killed Arab-Israeli civilians.

Syria is re-supplying Hezbollah with rockets, and that the Israeli Air Force is only striking resupplies when it passes into Lebanon (unfortunately, not 100% of the supply is destroyed in time by Israel...at least, no YET).

It is time for the Muslim world to take some accountability and handle its exterme element that is numbered in the millions of people.

For those who believe that the extremist element in Islam is small, the numbers are staggering. There are 1.2 billion Muslims in this world. Lets take a very liberal view that only a very small percentage of Muslims are exterme, while the rest of the Muslim world is very peaceful. So if only 10% of Muslims have extreme point of views, and may be a threat, and must be dealt with, meaning dealing with 120 million Muslims! How about 1%? Then you must deal with 12 million Muslims. How about 1/10 of a percent? Then you must deal with 1.2 million Muslims. The numbers are staggering! How do you propose dealing with even the "very low" figures of 1.2 million Muslim extremists?

This is a grave and dangerous situation, but it has to and will be dealt with. Whether by global support or only by Israel. Israel has no choice but to destroy Hezbollah.

Deal with Hezbollah, Hamas, Syria and Iran, and you shall have peace in the Middle East. The extremist element of Islam MUST BE and WILL BE dealt with. So it is written, so it shall be.
end EDDie post.

Israel is defending itself against Hezbollah,The Lebanese government was to have disarmed, and disbanded Hezbollah's militia per UN res.1559. But instead let Hezbollah keep their militia and acquire 12,000 rockets which were aimed at Israel.Lebanon is paying a price for that now. Hezbollah controlled the southern part of Lebanon, they killed 8 Israeli soldiers and kidnapped 2 others without any provocation. Yes Israel has the right to defend itself. Hezbollah is a terrorist group which has the stated goal of killing all jews around the world, and eradicating the country of Israel. If Canada or Mexico stated their goal was to kill all Americans and take our country would you want to defend yourself and our country? This is what Israeli's live with everyday. And to dba gregg above me,since you have no e-mail,The rules of war dictate you win or lose. Proportionality... horsesh*t, are you nuts? Did we just bomb a Japanese harbor and call it even after Pearl Harbor? Your answer is a joke. Gregg, I take no joy from seeing civilians killed, but what was the alternative at the end of WW2?, to send our troops into Japan (which was armed to the teeth, expecting an invasion) and having 50,000 to 100,000 of our grandfathers die so we can spare civilians of a country that attacked us? Israel has had an answer, that is to take land from the attackers and use it as a buffer. Then the world puts pressure on them to give it back and once they do they get attacked again. Gregg,I've served this country and know what war is like.I take strong offense to your assertion that I am immoral or dishonorable because of my views, but this is a great country and you're allowed those views. I see you've changed your answer, after I made too much sense for you. I would die to defend this country and our principles, but if you don't make more of the enemy die for their principles then you lose, your life, country and principles. You become less secure, when you lose.

The rules of war dictate that all self-defense must consider proportionality and precision. This is epsically true when you have overwhleming military superiority over your enemy.

Israel's enemy is Hesbollah, who's actions have killed about 50 israeli civilians and 25 military personnel. There has been minor infrastructure damage which has been repaired quickly

Israel's bombing has killed about 500 people, a little more than 400 of them unarmed civilians. They have destroyed massive civilian infrastructure, have accidentally killed unarmed UN observers, and also quite a few children, most counts put it at over 100.

It appears at this point that proportionality and precision either have been completely abandonded or are not possible with the current Israeli tactics, for this reason Israel's claim of this being the best set of actions to defend themselves becomes very weak.

In war every person, every soldier, and every government is responsible for their own direct actions, separately. Democratically elected governments are held to an even higher standard, and this makes them stronger, not weaker, as some US and Israeli right-wingers would have you believe.

Scuba, if your neighbor shot through your window but you didn't know which neighbor, would you kill everyone on your block?

Kennyp, we did not nuke civilians in Japan the next day after pearl harbor, the war slowly escalated on both sides until the bloody ending. We live in a world where honorable people are willing to die for their principles, not abandon them just to stay alive, or worse yet, abandon them and as a result become less secure.

Let's take a step back here for a short history lesson: Israel became its own country in 1949, and to this day many of the Arab nations in the Middle East refuse to recognize Israel's sovereignty. Virtually every Arab country in the region has been at war with Israel at some point within the past 57 years, and they all have one thing in common -- they would love nothing more than to see every Jew in the region eliminated. Don't get confused by the media misrepresentation here. Yes, the fight with Hezbollah has its roots in religion, but the Israelis are fighting for their survival. Now, if some country or group of countries attacked the U.S. with the sole purpose of wiping us all out, would you say we are justified in defending ourselves?

YA (people mostly from midleeastern countries believe that Isreal is the enemy because form being a child they were tought that muslim is the right relgion and to HATE america...unfortunatley. Lebenon is one of those countries that is on the same track with iran, iraq, and hezbollah.... If you have a seize fire than isreal will be left with nothin, beaten,... this is a holy war muslims and terrorists are controlling in midleeast... we should tell them to STOP....but unfrotunatley that cant be done...weve tried...

Israel, like every other country, has the right to defend itself. While each person may not agree with how it defends itself, that has to be a threshold point.

They absolutely have the right! Everyone keeps talking about the children that are being killed, and just as I have said in my other answers to questions similar to this one, it's horrible Lebanese children are being killed because of their Government's refusal to disarm a bunch of terrorist. People need to understand that when you ignore and allow terrorist behavior, they are going to take over everything. I think about the Lebanese children, but I also think about my kids and their futures, and I don't want them to live in a world full of Saddam's, Osama's and Hezbollah. I also think of the 9/11 and all the young children killed in that, and I think we owe it to them to do everything possible to prevent another attack like that happening again. But the only way to prevent it is to stop terrorism.

destroy all US airports, roads, power plants, etc.?
kill thousands of US women and children?
cross the US boarder to hunt down whomever they feel like?
turn US cities into rubble?
