Every place will have their own rules. Ask around until you find a place that will let you work there at your age. Then ask what kind of work you'll be allowed to do and what kind of risks you'll be exposed to. Especially, especially make a point of asking what kind of training you will receive.

Remember that when working with animals there is a chance you could be injured. I would not want to work anywhere that would put me at needless risk. Having been attacked by a pair of dogs when I was working my first job at 16, I can assure you that I check places out now.

Some places to try include: shelters, vet offices, pet stores, groomers and boarding kennels/doggie day cares. Use the yellow pages.

Do not be upset if you are turned away. Some places may be reluctant to take you on for insurance reasons. If you can't find someone to accept you, then maybe you can start a dogwalking business. Start small, get some experience then market yourself to the community at large.

BTW: You should know that most of working with animals is not playing with them and brushing them and teaching them tricks. A lot involves some very unpleasant messy labor. I can tell you, you pick up a lot of poop at the shelter...

As for my shelter you have to be 14 or accompanied by a parent.

Best wishes for a rewarding careeer in animal care.
