The key words are knowing the truth. Most people on earth this day can not plead innocent of not knowing the Word of God or hearing it. Most people can not say no one told me. So I think with no believing by your own choice you have condemned yourself. No one else has to. I will not tell you that you are going to hell because it says in the Bible: Judge not lest you be judged accordingly. I will not give anyone that satisfaction. Judge yourself, that is not for me to do.Yes I am a Christian. Yes I believe Jesus died on the cross for me. Yes I am thankful. But no I will not tell you that, no matter what. You choose, you decide, I can't do it for you.

The question listed about what "most religious people say" is a question of your personal perception and yours and other's belief systems, and a more specific question would be needed.
If your statement is inquiring as to a rebuttal to give, if you believe someone makes any statement to you that you find "ignorant," you can always choose not to dignify the statement with a response. This is technically a question of politeness, not religion.
If your question is to why people believe the things they do, the topic is more for sociology than religion.

I think that if someone has never understood/heard of Jesus before, they're not giong to hell. But if they've come to know of Jesus and of christianity and God and whatnot, then.. it's their choice. Would you let people into your home who constantly spit on your name, mock your family, and refuse to accept your son? A bit greedy, don't you think? To divulge in an immoral lifestyle and then expect to get into heaven cuz you think you deserve it. Even christians don't deserve it. No one does, but we accept christ if we want it.. but really, Heaven should not be the reason to accept Christ.. it should be because you genuinely want to get to know God and build a relationship with God the father.

Ignorance...
I believe as long as you live a good life and you dont do anything rediculousy bad then you will be fine... Live and let live. Whats hysterical about it is when it comes to teh Christian religion God is "all forgiving" so honestly he would forgive you for not believeing. They just contradict their religion over and over....

Well people make the choice to go to hell, by not accepting Christ, which is all they would have to do. God doesn't send them there, and he didn't make it for the lost.

It doesn't matter what you think. It matters what God says. By the way, you can believe in God and still go to hell. Satan does and will. You must confess your sins and believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord.
Romans 14
For none of us liveth to himself, and no man dieth to himself. 8 For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord's. 9 For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. 10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. 13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.

God is fair. He has proven Himself in the existence of everything, yet people still deny Him. so sad.

If it says it in the Bible, than you do know the truth. So what's your excuse, now.

Because they will. Then only way to get to Heaven is to confess your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
God is very fair and very just.

It supports their self interests to say so. Religion is about instilling fear into people and selling them the answers.
