He is not too old, but he might be telling you that he is. Listen to your child and your intuition. Is it a discipline problem or is it a age thing. If he still seems like he needs naps, irritable cranky rubbing eyes, etc. then continue to teach him to nap. If he goes all day without one and is still his normal self, it might be time to move on.

I Think That They Should Stop Taking Naps Around 6 Or 7 Years Old So They Don't Get Night And Day Mixed Up. If They Mix The Two You Will Be Up With Them All Night And Thats Not Good. The Will Demand Everything All Night.

I don't really think there is an age that is too old for naps. If he won't nap then just put him in his room and tell him to lay down and rest or look at a picture book (or read a book if he can read.) Just about everyone needs to take a break in the afternoon and rest. I know that sometimes in the afternoons in elementry school the teachers turn out the lights and have the kids put their heads on their desk so everyone can have a break. Hope I helped a little bit.

There is no such thing too old for a nap. Every age group is different. Everyone is different. I think your child is probably over the napping period for this time in his life, but don't worry, teenage boys can sleep half their life away, so there will come a time when he wants to nap, and you'll be screaming for him to get up. For now let your son tucker himself out during the day and he will fall right to sleep at night. If it is a break you desire, set an egg timer and tell him it's quiet time for a few minutes and to play quietly in his room for 20-30 minutes so you can get the break you need.

As long as they will take them---let them! If napping is not an option have "quiet time". That is what I always did. When my kids no longer took naps (between 3 and 4) they still had to go to their room and have "quiet time". They were allowed to read books or play with some legos, quietly. Even if they are too old for naps, they need some time to rest and recharge. So, establish a quiet time and he will be rested and so will you! Don't give him the option of refusing. You are the mom. You are in charge. If you say jump, he says......NOTHING. He jumps as high as he can! LOL.

You are never to old for a nap. Try relaxing with him first or reading to him. Or take a nap with him.

If your son doesn't try to sleep you can designate the time as a "quiet time" for him to at least rest a little bit. That's what my cousin does when her daughter doesn't want to sleep.

But I'd say the cut-off would be about 5. I remember I didn't like naps once I turned 5 and I wasn't fond of them when I was 4.

My son is five and he quit taking a nap a few months ago. They can still get him to sleep at preschool, but he thinks I am punishing him if I tell him to take a nap. You most likely won't get him to start taking them again. Sorry.

About 7 years old. Unless they want to take one on their own. There's no need to continue to put them down for a nap anymore at this age. It's cool for a 4 year old though. ^_^
