Because they do not believe and think, quite wrongly, that no one else should either. They apparently don't believe in freedom of religion that is in the Constitution. They say prove God exists without considering the definition of faith as a firm belief in something for which there is no proof . They feel ,as liberals, big government, or the judiciary, that only they are smart enough and should tell everyone else how to live their lives.

First of all I do believe in God, but I think it's because A good majority of Christians are always trying to push religion down peoples throats; telling them they need to live the path of ritcheousness or be dammed, and if they don't follow Him, they won't be saved.... I let people believe what they want. In the end we'll all know the truth!

why not leave us?
why are Christians always trying to prove that they are right, that their God exists, instead of just leaving us who believe do what we believe?
The answers are probably very similar.

Not all non-believers do this. I personally believe in science
and I couldn't give a rats a$$ what religious people think. I'm not trying to convince anyone.
If you really want a serious answer, here it is. I think a lot of atheists are unahppy when they see all the atrocities that are committed in the name of religion. They try to convince people not to just follow a religion but to think for themselves because maybe they will make better choices.
The bottom line here is that atheists are sure they are right just like religious people believe they are right. It's human nature to argue with people who disagree with you and try to change their mind. To atheists believing in religion seems so senseless and it's annoying to see other people acting that way. So they try and convince them to see reason.

I have a Buddha statue on my desk. It has brought me sneers from pious Christians who think they have the right to force their ideals on me.
I believe in GOD, and Jesus Christ, but that does not mean I am not a Buddhist.
Perhaps if so many Christians didn’t force their thinking on the rest of us, so many people would not be trying to prove that GOD does not exist.
I seriously doubt that anyone tries to disprove GOD in your presence unless you are provoking them in some way.
Nobody ever tries to disprove that Siddhartha (the Buddha) existed. Perhaps becuse I don't do anything to try to convert them. Perhaps it is because everyone knows that the Buddha is not a deity, and nobody ever claimed that he was.

We don't Religious retards are trying to prove to us that science is evil and that God is real, we just reciprocate the argument. Every day some religious nut group is trying to elminiate science by saying all we need to know is God, Jesus, and the Bible. They try to eliminate science from schools because it proves Christianity to be unlikely to be true. If you would leave us alone, and quit trying to ban science, we would stop attacking religion.

I know, this morning I came on and got so discouraged and disgusted I decided to quit. It is only here that this happens, you don't see those same people sending a barrage of nasty questions on the other categories. I don't know if it makes them feel tough, or they think it's funny, but it's getting hurtful. I don't understand why they want to gouge and hurt. The worst today was the sexual remarks about the suffering of Jesus, one young girl answered so vulgarly that I cried. It's not fun anymore. Don't know why I came back on this afternoon, curious if anyone else was as bummed out as I am, I guess.

I don't go out there trying to prove my point. And I pity any one who does. I leave everyone to believe what they want to if it makes them happy just like not believing makes me happy. But I do hate those guys that come up to my door trying to prove their point with their suits, bibles, and cards.

Probably because many of them have had Christ shared with them with the wrong attitude or witness. Plus, as a believer if we want to be left alone, we aren't doing our job in fulfilling God's great Commission.
Hope that helps,
