If you do want to "begin to show" your dog, you really shouldn't be thinking about breeding him until after you start. The purpose of dog shows is to evaluate breeding dogs -- it stands to reason that you wouldn't want to breed him until he has been properly evaluated.
Read the breed standard for Poms (see http://www.americanpomeranianclub.org/standard.htm ) and compare it to your dog. How does he rate? Go to the shows and talk to the Pom people there. Ask them to evaluate your dog, as well. These are people who have already made that step and committed to showing and breeding quality dogs, and their opinions are valuable.
IMO no dog should be bred before the age of 2 years. You'll want to check into genetic diseases common in the Pom, and research your dog's pedigree to make sure that he's not carrying them -- and of course you'll want to test him to make sure he doesn't have them himself...I don't just mean a clean bill of health from a vet, but actual certification for problems such as juvenile cataracts and luxating patella. For info on Pom health problems, see these links:

Lastly, this is not about a dog being "marketable" -- it's about a dog with good quality genes passing on those genes to healthy, sound puppies. It has nothing to do with money, or how many people want to use your dog at stud.
The fact is that, if you show your dog and obtain his championship, he will get more exposure and more people may want to use him for breeding. This is the only responsible way to "advertise" your dog -- show other Pom people that you are serious, and that your dog is of good quality. Otherwise, you're just another backyard breeder.

Do not breed your dog. There are too many dogs in shelters as it is. If you have to ask questions like this then you are not qualifed to breed dogs. Starting a puppy mill?

Was your dog shold to you as show quality? Is he on a non-breeding contract? If he's show quality, check your local all-breed kennel clubs. They can let you know about upcoming shows, mail you premium lists so you can enter your dog, and most importantly, let you know where you can take handling classes (you and your dog have to learn HOW to show).
You'll meet other pom owners at dog shows and you can talk to them, or better yet, your dog's breeder should be willing to help you. Your vet or breeder can let you know about getting his hips, eyes, whatever else, checked.
Don't jump into breeding until you're sure about what you're doing.

The mere statement you made MAKE HIM MORE MARKETABLE just SCREAMS out to those of us who know....

If you are truely concerned about testing, and all that, you wouldn't be saying
MORE MARKETABLE!
REPORT ALL YOU WANT....
IF YOU DONT' WANT THE COMMENTS, THEN MAKE MENTION OF SOMETHING BESIDE'S
MARKETABLE!
Being registered, does NOT make them show quality.
However if you are truely interested in SHOWING, breeding with be the fartherst thing from your mind right now.
SO JUST FOCUS ON SHOWING FOR THE TIME BEING.

I would ask your local vet, my family has been breeding dogs for years and my dad is a vet. They will tell you all the innoculations he needs and point you to anything you may need. Also check the breeds webpage, or the AKC webpage.

Go to the clubs section of the AKC site & look for local shows/show clubs. call some club contacts & ask around for handling classes which will show you the basics of showing your guy. (Obedience classes will show you how to get you dog ready for the "other" ring - obedience trials)
Along the way the health data will show up at your feet.
