I heard its bad to let yourself have an irregular period while you run, that it can cause stress fractures. Is there anyway to keep it regular while you are running competitivly?

Sorry, hon, but most female runners have irregular or NO periods. This is because of the constant exercise and the fact that many female runners also have eating disorders. The only way to have a regular period is to go on the pill. To help prevent stress fractures from happening to you, eat properly, take a calcium product and don't exercise to the point of muscle exhaustion. The proper diet and calcium product will keep your bones strong. By not overdoing the exercise, you will not stress your musles and, in return, your bones.

A stress fracture occurs when your muscles are tired and unable to absorb the shock of further running. The tired muscles transfer the overload of stress to the bone causing a tiny crack (or stress fracture).
