Being a nun is great...But it is much more challenging to live according to God's will in today's world and share your "light" with other people rather than living apart from the world. Maybe some people badmouth nuns because they themselves cannot find that peace of mind that a spiritual person has. Let them be jealous and do what your heart tells you ;)

It really should not matter to you what people say about nuns. If that is your calling, then you have to do it.
Nuns do a vast amount of good for the world. There are many orders of nuns to choose from, depending on what you want to do.
Give it your heart and soul. You will always regret it if you don't try...............

i think a lot of people give nuns a bad rep because of the fruit flies and odor (rotten cherries). see? it is just easy, but it doesn't take away from the good they do. give this a great deal of consideration; you will have to put up with all the crap that goes with doing good. there is always a price to pay. you already know the price Jesus paid. if it is in your heart to follow through, don't let people's judgments get in your way. you'll find the answer, and it won't be here, but within. blessings.

My opinion is that there was at one time a need to survive.
There were the kings and queens, the court of the kings.
Then there were the religious.
Then there were the peasants.
There were three divisions of society. The peasants occupying the lowest level.
So people would try to get as high to the highest level as they could.
The religious level was pretty good.
They were fed, they had housing provided.
They had religious rules that they had to adhere to, they weren't too tough.
As for you, you know in your heart why you want to become a nun.
It could be because of your bringing up.
Irish family. Boys become priests.
You could be pressured by your family?
I for one would pray for myself.
I would ask truly, is this what you really want?
I would ask this again and again till I got the answer.
I would ask God directly.
I wouldn't seek the help of the religious, they are biased.

O.K. so I dont think you are bad or stupid for wanting to become a nun. It is not what i am going to choose for my life but i respect your opinion as long as you are sure that is what you want. just think about the pros and cons. a pro is that you get to spend most of your day studying the word and serving the needy. a con could be that you will never be able to get married (though if God hasn't put marriage as a desire on your heart it will not be a con for you).
Also, the wierdo who said the stuff about the stoned to death thing is crazy.

I've met a few nuns, and they all seemed really nice. In fact my mom wanted to be a nun, but when she prayed to know if it was right for her, she felt that God wanted her to have a family instead...yeah, I gotta say, I'm glad I was born, so my feelings are a little mixed.

You can still serve God without becoming a nun! Maybe you should visit a convent to see how they live first. I have seen a few because I went to Catholic schools. Good Luck in whatever you decide.

Nothing wrong with considering the religious life. There are a lot of bad orders, though. Some are mixed up with Zen meditation and Wicca unfortunately, but there are good orders that have held fast to the traditions of their faith. I have great respect for anyone desiring to enter the religious life. Good luck and do a lot of research before you take the leap!

I went to catholic school and a lot of those nuns were vicious bitches. But then I had a really great black history teacher in college who was nun. So I think while they're reputation is somewhat deserved, it's unfair to classify them all as evil.

Yes, you will become a nun. Any woman who does not will be stoned to death for she is a harlot. The Department of Virtue and Vice has spoken.
