To dear Miss Ambassador, I would like to note that we are currently dealing "with it" as you so frankly put it. We often leave that part out of our pledges and what not, but we also have legal cases. You might want to be a little more educated before you say things...or post things, that make you look a bit like an moron. And if it said one nation under Allah, would you throw a fit? Precisely...so, as you so kindly said...deal with it.
As for the mental problem, I do not think so, but I do believe that it is the culture and area you are raised in that brings up religion. If you are raised in the Texas you are most likely to become a Southern Baptist or a Christian. If you are born and raised in Ethiopia, you probably won't have that belief, unless these missionaries come and screw up your culture. It's the same idea as Guns, Germs, and Steel. It's a lot about location.

Someone who is different to a society conforming citizen does not make them insane.
How can anyone not believe in a God? You could be perceived as insane by those who believe.
Who is being conned here on earth? There is a God and a Saviour Jesus Christ. The con artists are here to tell you otherwise. If you don't believe, you are the one being conned.
Some religious people take things into their own hands and not doing Gods will for their own benefit. They also distort the teachings and law to justify their cause. Just like the lawyers who bend the law to get criminals out of jail.
You should not look at what others are doing in their pursuit of religion. How about yrself? Do you have a relationship with God? Why are you here? http://www.greatcom.org/laws/english/flash/

I think there's lack of knowledge in your question... You're saying "every preacher"... meaning not one single preacher is real. You can't possibly account for each preacher's truthfulness.
Religious people that bring controversy to the movement are exactly that. Religiously controversial people. Now, a true follower of a religion that commands only good from an individual can do NO harm to that individual or the rest of the world.

Probably. I would never say all preachers are con artists although some have to be. Some people are really preaching what they believe is right in their heart I guess, to people who believe it in theirs. Everyone is a hypocrite you, me, your next door neighbor its a basic truth of human nature, everyone says one thing but does another. You can't lump every christian in with the fanatics. There are some genuinely good people who try to do good and set an example. True they are pretty much few and far between but its not fair to lump the crazies in with the kind hearted people.

Wow, somewhere along the line someone must have really hurt you. Every preacher is not a con artist. I know my preacher isn't. Yes, I do know.
Yes, there are a ton of bad christians out there. There are tons of bad doctors, yet if we are sick we still go to one. No, that isn't excusing bad christians. Sadly, bad christians make Jesus look bad and that angers me.

James 1:27
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
KJV
So the answer is yes, it's possible to be truly religious without mental problems.
Your angst is justified, however. Let me ask you a question . . .
Would you characterize the con-artist preachers and the religious people whose actions are contrary to God's teaching as true Christians who are pleasing to God?
If your answer is "NO!", then I agree with you. They take the name of the Lord (call themselves Christians, but they don't DO what he says). Sounds to me like they're breaking the following commandment, doesn't it?
Ex 20:7
Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
KJV
Are these charlatans keeping you from coming to God because you don't want to be associated with hypocrites?
If so, let me ask you another question . . .
Are you "teaching THEM a lesson"? Or will you be the one that suffers because you don't humble yourself in the sight of God, repent and be converted?

A true preacher is called by God to lead and teach the Word through Him. All preachers aren't righteous, but there are some righteous ones who are Godly.

Being religous has nothing to do with mental problems. I could agrue with you all day, but instead I will just pray that God will open your eyes. Just remember no one is perfect not even Christians. The only one to ever walk the Earth who was perfect is Jesus Christ.

Hey!!!!
I'm pretty darn religious and I don't have too many mental problems.
I don't drool much anymore.
And...
I've pretty much got the wetting myself thing under control.
If you don't believe me you can ask my belly button lint collection. He thinks I'm just super and we talk a lot don't you know.
Now I've got to go and catch that darn purple unicorn that is frolicking in my pantry. I hate having hoof prints in my cupcakes.
Pax,
Pabs
