Why is there not a copyright on music as there is for the lyrics....

nowadays you can hear bollywood songs featuring the music of Vangelis, Sabrina and some pop group....these artists worked so hard to compose some nice tunes and melody for all of us to remember and out of the blue you get Indian cinema use these music and just substitute the original lyrics with their own... An example is the use of the opening theme in Chariots of Fire by Vangelis becoming a full song in an Indian movie.
i think it is not fair......do you?

Its hard to prove infrinement in a case like that. A song doesn't have to be changed a lot to be considered a different work.
China is the worst pirate of music, but its would be a nightmare to try to sue the people responsible.

Is it fair? No.

no i dont it is copyright theft, the organization to report them to should be made on all advertisements so thier name is in the headlines in the uk it is, the performing rights society, they issue licences to any body who plays music in a public place, the royalties then go to the artists , alledgedly.

Easier to sue when someone copies it and then make more money than they could with their own version.
