I know I've had them for breakfast in the south and they tasted sort of like weird buttery rice sized potatoes or something.. but what exactly are they??

Grits are made from dried hominy, which is corn kernels soaked in lye to make the hulls come so the kernel will swell. The hominy is rinsed, dried, and ground. And then you have grits!

they are made from corn. homniey comes first then it gets broken down even more to become grits . I don't like either I hate any food that is soggy and they are soggy!!! ewwww
