No one in their right mind would allow an 11 year old to watch their child, only because you're too immature to know what to do in emergency situations. It's perfectly fine to babysit for family if they trust you. Instead of a babysitting job, why dont you try making jewelry for kids, like a necklace or bracelet with names on them, so you can sell it to mom-and-pop stores and make money. If you know how to use the sewing machine, you could try making cute baby clothes and start a business. LOTS of women would buy cute clothes for reasonable prices from you if they're cute.

First, learn how to spell sitting. Just kidding. Check to see if there are any local course you can take on baby sitting safety, etc. This will impress parents. Then get the word out. Tell neighbors and friends you are available. Loving kids is not enough. You have to show you are responsible. The first kid who helped us out was 12. She loved kids. we were getting ready for a party and let her watch our son in our hosue for a few hours. When I had to run over and catch him falling off a chair and knew that I was wasting time(and money) watching the sitter-I paid her and said thanks. She was not called back. She loved kids, but was not responsible. When you get to the house, ask questions about the kids routine-what time does he go to bed, can he have a snack, do I have your cell phone number, let them know if you can't get a hold of them your mom or dad is home and you can call them- ask if they have anohter contact they would want you to call in an emergency(other than 911 that is a given if a medical emergency) bring something fun to do with the kids that is new to them-and here is a tip that parents will call you back for repeat business-make the house cleaner than it was when you got there. You put the kids to bed and are killing time unitl parents get home-do a little clean up put toys away, neatly stack dishes, whatever, These parents will tell their friends, "not only did she babysit she cleaned up too." At 11 it may be tough, but if you show responsibility you may land a job.

Actually you have to wait until age 12...check your state laws. Your Uncle could have been in trouble for allowing you to babysit at such a young age if something were to happen.

Speaking for myself, I wouldn't let an 11 year old babysit my child, I think 16 is the lowest I would go, and that's pushing it for me. 11 is just WAY too young.

Good luck finding a parent stupid enough to leave their child with an 11-year-old unattended. I'm not doubting your abilities. I'm just saying that if I was a parent, I would never trust an 11-year-old unless she was a relative, as you obviously prove.

You're going to have a hard time - most parents won't hire under 13 years old. But, if your parents have a friend or a neighbor close by, you make them the offer.

You are too young to stay home alone yourself. Forget about it until you are at least 16.

No responsible parent will hire an eleven-year-old, I don't care how great you are.
