I think it's because we are all afraid to die. We don't know what is going to happen. I personally believe that there is live after death (psychical death). Of course, everyone wants to go to heaven... but I think people don't know if they would be put there. All I have to say is don't worry. Live out your life to be long and happy and be the best you can be. You can't be expected to do things you can't. Just be the best you can be!
Does that help?

I don't believe in heaven so i don't really want to go there, and I don't care if I die, i just want to live my life as full as possible while I'm here. It is probably true for most people just not me.

I don't mind the idea of dying so much as the pain that comes with it. But also, I don't plan on inhabiting heaven for more than a visit here and there in my after-life. I have my home "out there," and am perfectly content in staying in it when I leave this body behind.

Hard to speak for anyone but myself.
For me, I'm not afraid of dying (and I don't mean that to sound triumphalistic, heroic, macho or cliche) and I dearly long to be at home with my Savior and Lord.
The hardships, losses and pain of this world and my life seem to be ever present with me these days, and my own weakness and sin seem to surround me everywhere I look. But I am told to expect this as well, so it doesn't surprise me.
I have responsibilities and duties here, so no need for anyone here to think I'm contemplating anything irrational, unbalanced or stupid (i.e., suicide).
I'm just speaking truth. My own hands have ruined so many things I've held precious, and my Lord has promised there will be a day when I'm with Him and finally, sin is dead and my rest with Him will be complete.

When we are children death is not one of the greater things we think about. When we are in our twenties, thirties and forties we are raising our children and buying homes. Again nothing we think about. When we get to the fifties and sixties we are thinking about retirement and what we are going to do during retirement. Again we are not thinking of death. When we get to our seventies, eighties and nineties and pain starts consuming our bodies this is when death becomes appealing. Then is when we wish to die to go to heaven where there is no more pain and suffering. So yes it is true when we are young and middling but not when we get old.

You will have to justify your life on earth. Did you do enough for others? Did you live a life you would not be embarrassed to see, as God sees it? Did you speak out against injustice? Why is the world better for you being here? When you can answer yes, you will be closer to being ready.
