Why do so many people answer questions with religious statements? It seems like it is only Christians that do that? You don't see other people pushing their religion like that!
I don't really think a question like who is you favourite celeb needs to have a religious answer, but that my opionion, what do you think?

Hmm the response is very interesting, instead of answering the question, I'm being told my soul is not saved, and so on, seriously if you can answer the question, don't bother replying!!!! I never said I didn't believe in god or Jesus, and you people assume that I'm a atheist or bashing your religion! Interest! Just answer the damn question already!!

This question has sparked some controversy, but it seems like most of the Christians answering the question are not really answering the question, they are trying to defend their religion, that was not was the question was about! Religion is great it awesome that people have something bigger than themselves to believe in, but aren't there other things in your life, other than that! Especially when someone answer a silly questione eg. who is you favourite celebrity, and the answer is Jesus and there are bible quotes! I'm just trying to understand why for some people they don't have broader horizons.

Personally, I try not to "push" my religion on anyone. I am however, open to people asking questions about my faith and try to answer without preaching.
As to your do you have a life beyond your religion question, in short, not much. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God" is a quote I am reminded of. I work, sleep, eat, go to church, do my scripture study and try to live my religion while also respecting others right to disagree with me. My friends and family help keep me from getting too far "out there" and getting all consumed and fanatical about my beliefs. But I really like that I am thought of as a "Molly Mormon" within my circle of friends.
My thought with other people who DO try to push their religious beliefs into other areas of YA is that they may be answering a non-religious question the only way they know how, because their religious beliefs are so much a part of them that it's difficult to separate the two. Having said this, there's also just some religious nuts out there :)

Darn and I thought you would like to read something more than instant web publishing.

FAQ: What books are in the Word and what are apocrypha?

"The books of the Word are all those which have the internal sense; but those books which have not the internal sense, are not the Word. The books of the Word, in the Old Testament, are the five Books of Moses, the Book of Joshua, the Book of Judges, the two Books of Samuel, the two Books of Kings, the Psalms of David, the Prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi: and in the New Testament, the four Evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke, John; and the Apocalypse. The rest have not the internal sense" (Arcana Coelestia n. 10325 or Heavenly Doctrine n. 266).

FAQ: Why different testaments and books in the Word?

"As regards the Word particularly, it has existed in every age, though not the Word we possess at the present day. Another Word existed in the Most Ancient Church before the Flood, and yet another Word in the Ancient Church after the Flood. Then came the Word written through Moses and the Prophets in the Jewish Church, and finally the Word written through the Evangelists in the new Church. The reason why the Word has existed in every age is that by means of the Word there is a communication between heaven and earth, and also that the Word deals with goodness and truth, by which a person is enabled to live in eternal happiness. In the internal sense therefore the Lord alone is the subject, for all goodness and truth are derived from Him" (Arcana Coelestia n. 2895).

People of all religions (or lack thereof) do it, let's be fair. Some are just more rabid and aggressive than others.

Then again...
Maybe they're not sure what to say, so they quote something inspirational (or damning, considering the kind of question). Maybe they can't think outside of the box or incapable of having an original thought that's of any use. Or maybe, they're just a bunch of smart-asses that can't make comments that don't sound like they came out of kindergarten, who just enjoy yanking everyone else's chain no matter how serious the question.

In any case, the only time I see answers as religion being crammed down someone's throat is when it blatantly is. Statements made to non-Christians such as, "Turn your life over to Jesus" or "You're going to go to Hell!" or whatever is just rude and uncalled for, IMHO.

They don't take the time to consider that maybe one does have faith in Jesus or one's faith does not incorporate Jesus into it's system. They don't consider the feelings of others or the situation. They don't consider that their words my do more harm than good and that the person they are talking to just wants their question answered and not in a proselytizing way. If people want to convert to a religion, they will do so on their own. Cramming it down their throats will only make a religion even less appealing it could be.

Pushing religion seems to be a popular subject as of late. Well as a Christian I can offer you my answer---take it for what it is worth. I do not answer every question with a statement on Jesus, first of all. However, we all answer questions according to our live experiences and beliefs. Christianity is not a Sunday only thing---it is a lifestyle. Let me give you a glimpse of my life, I go to church three times a week, I am a sunday school teacher, awana leader, my huband is a deacon, we do a bible study in our home, I am a VBS teacher. We read our bible daily and pray at least, at least twice a day. We fellowship with a lot of other Christians. We live and breath Jesus. We love Jesus. We love living for Jesus. So, now can you see why this just ends up as part of an answer to every question.

The bible tells us to witness to all. We use every opportunity to share the Word. We never know when we can plant a seed or if one is ripe for the harvest.

Christians can't seem to win. If we answer with Jesus we get bashed, if we don't answer with Jesus we are called hypocrites. I am not saying that is your position. And to an extent I do agree with you. I can certianly and have answered plenty of questions without mentioning my faith. But I do hope I shed some light on why Jesus is mentioned so often by Christians. When you love someone you think about him and talk about him all the time. I know I talk about my husband and kids alot.

Christians, along with Judiasm and Islam, have a very serious commitment to their faith. (At least the ones that are serious about their beliefs do). The view that many Christians take is that they see people running toward the edge of a cliff blindfolded, and they don't want to see them run off the edge and perish. Sometimes their answers don't make sense, because they aren't trained necessarily on how to present their faith. Other times they do make sense because they have been trained. Either way, though, they aren't trying to attack and hurt others, they want to help people find the freedom in Christ that they have.

Religion is a figment of the human imagination. It's a form of hope for the human race. So the olden folk in their little horse-driven tricycles sat down with a big book (there were lots of trees back in the day) and decided to write down some rules about how humans should live in exchange for great discount deals in heaven or be damned forever.

So people resort to 'religion' to salvage themselves from all the crap that we do each day.

Ultimately religion is about your conscience. You don't need a rule book to do what's morally, socially and humanely right.

And at the rate the world is going - we need all the 'hope' we can get, innit?

>>>Why do so many people answer questions with religious statements? It seems like it is only Christians that do that? You don't see other people pushing their religion like that!<<<

I completely beg to differ.

Atheists are on here constantly pushing their "religion."

They are constantly on here poking fun at religion, calling it stupid and ignorant, and trying to get those who follow it to abandon it.

I don't mean that all atheists are like this -- but many are, at least on this board.

This whole "pushing religion on people" thing works both ways -- yes, there are people who "push" Christianity, but there also people who try to "pull" others away from it.

Too bad you only see it as happening one way, though, when it so clearly happens the other way as well.

The term that leaps to mind is "selective indignation."

Well, many Christians compartmentalize their lives. They're Christians on Sunday, and the rest of the week is simply secular to them. Christ isn't interested in being the Lord of a Christian's life on Sunday, but then not the rest of the week.

So, many devout Christians view everything from the framework of the Christian faith. To many, God is not a part of their life, He IS their life. That is a biblical view. Now, it is possible to do that without pushing your faith on others.

It is a Christian's repsonsibility to stand, not push.

Why so biased whilst somewhat time spent reading the posts at here would prepare you for sure why it fairly is between undesirable Christians and ALL good human beings alongside with sturdy Christians! Anti atheism is doing a lot harm to Christianity that it fairly is fairly anti Christianity – David Manley It takes incredibly in basic terms one to make a quarrel. it fairly is ineffective for the sheep to pass resolutions in favour of vegetarianism, on a similar time as the wolf continues to be of a distinctive opinion. - William Ralph Inge. Why so blind to what motives the backlash against Christianity? all the different religions and atheists stay in peace and are in basic terms attacked with the aid of undesirable Christians which motives all sturdy Christians to melancholy on the wear and tear they do! The self destruction of Christianity is underway and the only element that can supply up it fairly is to desert the destructive human thoughts, seek for to rediscover the assumption of a loving god and act like it!

There are some people who want their religion to be the popular one, and must therefore make sure that all conversations are about that religion.

Also, since most of the people on this forum are American, the most common religion is Christianity. I assure you that there are evangelical Muslims, Buddhists, Wiccans, etc.
