It feeds an emotional need for them ... even if everything is about sex ! For some ..it's just harmelss fun and keeps them from cheating on their significant other in real life maybe !

What is the appeal of cyber sex? The answer is that anyone can get some. We log on into a world where "getting some" is easy to do. As a fantasy tool, cyber sex is hard to beat. It enables us to be anyone we wish to be and to partake in any manner of online sharing, from simple flirtation to all out, screaming spasms of ecstasy. Cyber sex, or cybering, is so alluring simply because it is so damn easy. Why bother going out to a place with 200 strangers, gambling on the slim chance of establishing something meaningful with one of them, or the even smaller chance of anything resembling real sex, when you can go to a place with a million or so people, meet someone in less than 30 seconds...and have a solid 85% chance of scoring! How's that for odds?

It is really stupid, but I guess people like the illusion that they are having sex with someone who is that "perfect" man/woman. It is basically delusional thinking for people who can't get any in the real world. They go to cyber space to find something that isn't real. The thing is do these people actually pass off cyber-sex as real sex because if they do that is just totally messed up.

Wow, I can't believe the near-sightedness and far-sightedness of the people answering this post.
First of all, its not sex. Everybody read again.... its not sex. For those of you who think it is better than playing the odds of meeting someone.... its not sex.
Secondly, for those who think it is for some loser who can't find a relationship, who tries to imagine it a perfect person, what crack pipe are you all smokin? Its called masturbation, and reportedly 95% of males and 62% of females do it (Alfred Kinsey: Sexual Behavior in the Human Male). They are just adding another element to their masturbating. Some people like it, some don't. Some people like porn, some don't.
If it feels good, go with it.
