Her mentally abusive mother, and at times physical, does not want her to leave because she needs her help to watch the younger brother, since she works late at night. This 17yr old mom wans to transfer her school to where she is now staying because she finishes in May, but can't without a parent. She's an excellent student (advanced classes).... What are her choices? Recommendations? She is working and taking care of her 2yr old son very well..staying in a stable christian home. But want to obide by the law and in no way wants to return to the home she had for her and her son's sake..

Check out the article below. You can do it. And, at 17, you do NOT need permission from either parent. You can do it without an attorney, but you should probably get one -- even if it's from a legal aid office.

she would need to check with the court but I think if she can prove that she can take care of herself and her son for six months the judge in the court will emancipate her. Only if she can prove that she can do it, and I also think since she has had a child she is no longer under age she is an adult now.

I agree that she should check with the courts, but I'm pretty sure she's going to be ok since she's had a child of her own.

If she has a child through child birth, she is already emancipated. Good Luck
