The French would say Petrus, Latour, Laffite, Mouton, Margaux, Haut Brion etc but they rank wine on the price people are prepared to pay.

Argentina and Chile make fantastic wines for about £5-6 and incredible ones for about a tenner.

My preference, in the moderately priced wines, has been any of the Shiraz wines (for reds) that have been made in Australia. They are usually quite enjoyable.

My favourite white wines are still the Chablis which originate in France.

Depends on what you're eating. Do not go by price, it really doesn't matter (c'mon, who hasn't had a good TwoBuckChuck?). Look at the label, if a company puts the time and effort into an attractive label chances are the product in the bottle is going to be worth the effort.

Have you ever asked parents of multiple children which child is their favorite?

I do have to add though, "anything under $15 will give you a headache" is has no basis in fact, logic or chemistry. It's quite a silly thing to say.

I would go for Spanish or Californian red wine.

Expensive- Montilicino Brunello ($100+)
Moderate- Lynfred Late Harvest Zynfindel or Reisling (little hard to find depending where you are, both are sweet)
Cheap- Anything Trader Joe's carries... (US chain- funky shop... good eats too)

Happy tasting!
