Nothing, in the right context. One should pick up a Bible when trying to learn about the Bible. That one collection of sources is not, however, the only book, shouldn't be taken literally or authoratatively, and does not contain all knowledge. It wouldn't be much use, say, for someone trying to rebuild a motor.

Clarity is what's wrong with that quote. It implies that those who do not "pick up a Bible" are uneducated. That can not always be the case. Perhaps one who does not read the Bible holds a PhD in Chemistry or History. That person is obviously educated. If you mean, "Please pick up a Bible and educate yourself on the ideas of Christianity," you need to state it as such. Otherwise, it comes off arrogant and rude.

What's the problem? You'd at least educate yourself on what the beliefs of others are, learn some new vocabulary, and probably a little ancient geography and politics while you're at it. Lots of people who don't believe the Bible read it from a scholarly perspective.

What is wrong is that many people think there is nothing to learn from the Bible and think there is something wrong with the quote!
Even if you don't believe in God or Jesus, everyone can learn something good from the Bible and change their life for the positive.
The business world alone could learn tons! Use standard weights and measures, have witnesses to contracts, don't borrow if you can avoid it, be honest with everyone... all good things to learn.

Go ahead an laugh, but wait until you need to build an ark in "cubits" for a lot of animals. Who ya gonna call?
And how about if you get a contract to construct a tower to heaven? I bet you didn't think of that huh? (Oh, yeah, don't forget to bring lots of translators.)
And are you absolutely sure you know what to do if your neighbor is mowing his lawn on the Sabbath, or beating his servant, or doing something unclean?
I could just go on all day about all the practical hints you can get out of the Good Book. I hope this helps.

It's good to see that JAT has been reading his Bible!
The other thing i see wrong with that quote is merely picking the Bible up won't do you any good. You have to open it and read it! And if you don't understand it, well,"The preaching of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are saved it is the gift of God".

Educate yourself on how to wage wars, how to keep and treat your slaves, blindly kill your child, belittle women, how to live in fear of HIS WRATH, how to have no tolerance of others, how to have yet another interpretation to add to the other 10,000,000 interpretations out there and lastly how not to live by the teachings of the greatest non-violent revolutionary, Jesus.

Depends on the context. If you are arguing what is actually written in it then you might want to make sure you know. Otherwise it doesn't have any relevance in anything else.
