can someone tell me how they grade the ASVAB. i bought a study guide and i answered 151 out of 216 correct. is it a normal grade scale or do they break each section down and one correct answer on one section is worth more than another? please be descriptive. I am trying to get a technical job like airtraffic controller or avionics mechanic. does anyone have any test taking skills they would like to share?

The different branches of the service have different grading scales and different criteria they use for grading the ASVAB. For example, in the Air Force, they have four categories: (1) general, (2) administrative, (3) mechanical, and (4) electrical. The scale goes from 1 to 99, and of course 99 is the highest. They then take an average of the four to give you an overall score. Seeing as you got 151 out of 216 correct on the ASVAB practice test, you stand a decent chance of making the grade for air traffic controller or avionics mechanic. If you want the exact numbers you need to get, contact an Air Force recruiter. They should be able to tell you what scores you need to get (and in which categories) in order to be considered for those jobs. Good luck!

I took it in '77, and it was 13 different test. the most screwy was the space perception test.
I was in the Army for 3 years.

Don't stay too long on one question, your first guess is usually the correct answer, and ask yourself if the answer(s) sound reasonable?

My recommendation to you, is if you have half a brain, find a community college, and start on some sort of engineering degree, such as mechanical, electrical, etc. The pay you WILL get is astounding compared to what you will earn as a tech. Techs USED to get paid well in this country, but no more. A tech now in this country is poverty level, with an air-traffic controller not far behind.

Engineering is difficult, and very hard work(in school), but isn't life difficult anyway? I used to worry about putting gas in my VW...now I own a 911, and a Benz, and a home. Do the smart thing WHILE you are young, and get your education NOW. The military recruiters get paid to paint a pretty picture(but the reality of trying to educate yourself while being in the service is VERY difficult trying to learn thru a computer screen), and I would NOT sign for more than 3 -years(regardless of what bonus's(taxed to hell) are promised).

Reach for the stars...and you might get there...

good luck to you!

The best folks remotely in risk are pilots. 6- Ok, rah America! 7- Get some thing as a way to aid you out in civilian existence.

Each section is broken down, although they do give an overall score as well. Depending on your score, you are put into a category. The higher the category or score, the more opportunities you will have to get what you want. You will need to do well in the math section to get a job like you are looking for. Study hard, it is worth it....

The test is retarded I didn't take it seriously at all. I think that the test is designed to make people feel they are smart and really its seriously easy and stupid. You can speeed through it and they'll calll you up saying you got some GREAT SCORE!
