Ant-illegals say illegals hurt our economy. Illegal supporters say that illegals help our economy. Who is right? What is the proof? Who has done their homework? (and I dont mean Youtube)

I agree Angela R, Most illegals work more than one job, paying taxes on both. Not getting a return on either. Then they send money to Mexico, paying a big hunk to Western Union, then buying more than an average person would in clothes and toys to send some, or take home when they go back.

I know my math, thank you, I cant imagine someone over 6 stating such BS. I have more experience in this subject that you could imagine. I have gone through the legal process (not fun, very time consuming) and have lived in Mexico, seen their poverty, and the good the illegals have done there. I have seen the paycheck stubs of illegals, showing that they pay everything from income tax, state tax, local tax to social security. They are fixing our roads and keeping our parks clean with those taxes. They are good people. I cannot imagine that they could possibly hurt our economy, with all they do here. But keep spreading your hate, you seem to be good at it.

The only people I see making more money are the companies who hire them. They don't pay into insurance or anything like that for them so these companies save all sorts of money. In this country illegal or not every child has a right to an education, so the children who are illegal are coming into the schools without the parents paying the taxes that help keep the schools going. So now the schools get over crowded and supplies and room run low and then probably need more levies passed to make sure the children that were born here and the illegal children can have a decent (or somewhat decent) education. Who's pockets does that come out of? Ours, and alot of us are trying to make ends meet as it is with so many of us losing our jobs. What jobs are so undesirable if we are losing them. I think that's an excuse for companies not to pay people what they're worth. This country was built on people who worked with their hands, builders, farmers, etc. and now we want to shut out citizens of this country that will do those jobs so companies can save money. I don't see how that helps our economy.
I don't think it's immigrants that upset people it's the fact that there are people coming here illegally. It's the word illegal that has people worked up. It's when you make your first steps into this country committing a crime is what has people angry. I personally don't understand how illegal immigration is a good thing. Especially with the fact that we're not immune to terrorism. This country is a melting pot and I love it that way it's just not right that if a citizen of this country commits a crime we want justice but it's different when it comes to illegally entering this country.

All you have to have is common sense to know :
(1) If you flood the country will low skilled workers that will work for less than the people here are working for that its gonna drive wages down.
(2) If you workplace doesn't have medical insurance and you get sick or hurt that you cannot be refused medical treatment and the bill goes to the taxpayers.
(3) Since the majority of illegals work under the table they pay nothing more than sales tax, so to say they pay taxes may be somewhat true its noting compared to the normal American taxpayer.
(4) Government spending on bilingual Teachers, government personnel, forms, and in some case even roads signs cost the taxpayers millions a year.
(5) The burden of government services allocated to illegals is overwhelming, of course if you only make 12,000 to 15,000 a year you qualify for Food stamps,WIC, housing and heating assistance the list goes on and on if your resourceful enough.
There are many site that have statistics that support one side or the other but the bottom line is it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know they are doing more harm than good.

I don't think it's about if they hurt or help our economy. It's about the fact that they're here illegally. The fools in Washington DC are always saying how the USA is a nation that is governed by "the rule of law." They're illegal and not just Mexicans, but Irish, Russian, Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, etc. Most Americans are law abiding....Immigrants should be held to the same standard as everyone else in this country !!

It depends on who you are. If you own a business and are paying illegals below market wage then it is helping you and the people that buy your products. However, if you're a hospital that is forced to provide free health care for the illegals then it is hurting. If you're a tax payer who is funding schools and other social services for illegals it is also hurting.
Regardless of whether you think it is helping or hurting the economy there is one fact that is not disputable and that is that it is ILLEGAL. Therefore it should not be allowed regardless of whether or not it is beneficial.

In case people don't realize, illegals keep down wages and that's a good thing! If they didn't, this would cause inflation. Immigrants are consumers too...They contribute and partake in this economy.....
By taking the least desirable jobs, they have kept industries competitive that would have gone to Mexico and China....There are a lot of myths about how illegals take more then they contribute, its just myths....

Don't know for sure.I think it's a total matter of opinion.People all have their own views,no matter how silly they seem to others.
I have no "proof".But I do know that our economy isn't suffering anymore now than 10yrs ago.Illegals have been in this country for years.Only recently people have made an issue of it.Why?Maybe because illegals are no longer only migrant workers or maids.Companies have started realizing what good workers they are,and are hiring more illegals to work for them.

Let's see, if I'll be 12 in 2012, that makes me 6 now, which makes you minus 13. That would explain some of your mixed up beliefs. You've formed opinions on things which #1 you have a false definition of, and #2 which you've done no research on, have no experience with, and seem unwilling to learn.
So this is for the people reading these answers who are still willing to learn.

Based on what I read in your profile, you skipped school and don't own a TV, dictionary, etc. Here's the ACTUAL definition of feminism, NOT what you put in your profile.
fem·i·nism (fm-nzm) KEY
NOUN:
Belief in the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes.
The movement organized around this belief.
******************************************************************************
Note the world EQUALITY.
In this country, we have something called freedom of speech. If you and your hateful anti-American pro-illegals can come on here and bad mouth not only citizens but also your elders, you'd better not be reporting anyone. The people you disagree with have just as much right to their freedom of speech and beliefs as you do. So try keeping it civil.

Cheap labor help the economy since its the kind of labor no one is willing to perform, and its necessary since many small businesses can not afford to pay regular wages to stay healthy and grow. Immigration becomes a problem when the intended immigrant comes solely to commit crimes. but how to weed the bad ones? its not really a matter of concern for many if there is European immigrants, only when its Hispanic or other 3rd world countries. Diversity and ingenuity made this country great, lets keep it that way.

They have helped our economy.
They return if they cannot find work and they do jobs at wages below what other citizens would do them for.
Their are costs such as free education and medical.
These are paid by the government and are a hidden cost.
But, we need workers and the Mexican labor is a help to our society, no doubt.
I am white and a citizen.

You can find data which goes both ways...Politicians use this hot button issue to get elected !!! Every election this issue along with other hot button issue will come up and then once they are elected things have a way of dying...example..all the stuff we heard about gays before the 2004 election..what ever happened ? It's a very OLD trick in the book. Scare the people and they will vote for you!!!!
