our dog had this problem. we tried brushing him daily but it didnt really work. we took him to the doggy parlour and they shaved him. it was so cute! u could try to shave the dog (take him to profesisonals) and then as his/her hair grows out, brush it often. use doggy conditioner when u guys bath the dog too

Use conditioner and a wire brush, cut the knots carefully and detangle the hair with the conditioner on while you're bathing him....
If you are not sure how to cut the hair, I would recommend taking him to a profesional groomer first. They have the experience and equipment to do it right and can tell you some good products.
If you prefer doing it yourself there is a very good pet supply here: www.valleyvet.com.

You're going to have to keep brushing your dog. Use a detangling shampoo (they make specialty shampoos for this for dogs, if you can't find one, they make lots of them for horses, works great) and brush him as often as you can.

Shaving him is also a good idea, there are many different styles and lengths that will make his hair easier to take care of and won't make him look ugly. Talk to a good groomer and see what they recommend. Good luck!

you can do 1 of 2 things...you could:

1. give it a haircut & keep it trimmed all the time

or

2. Brush it every once in a while to prevent the knots.

I think there is - you should go to a groomer, your vet or a pet store where they have grooming done, and ask about it. It might be more expensive though - it probably will be. The best thing to do is to sit for awhile every single night and brush him. It seems tedious but it works the best.

Take him to get groomed, those mats hurt there skin. You will probably have to get him shaved. Don't worry it will grow back, and just keep getting him groomed at least once a month Every 3 weeks if he's that hairy.

No matter what kind of shampoo you use, if you don't brush the dog, it will get matted.

Actually yes there is but you have to go to a specialty shop or a veterinary office to get it.
