Don't even consider it until you have finished college, started your career, and ....heck, don't do it until the wars are over.

Personally, I would push it even further out than that. I would wait until you are dead to join the Navy.
That being said, I am assuming you ARE going to join the Navy. In that case, yes I would wait until you get out of college. Not only will college provide you with enough of an education that you can actually realize what it going on around you but you might actually get lucky and realize the mistake you might make.
In addition to these benefits, having a college degree is an assett whn in the military. Personally, if I were forced into the military, I would want to be an officer and the only way to be an officer in the US military today is pretty much through a BA degree. The chances of getting shot are significantly less as an officer too.
Sign up for Navy ROTC in college andf get them to pay for it. THen when you get out, you are an officer and in the Navy.

If you want to make decent money in the military, go to college first and get a commission to become an officer. Enlisted people make next to nothing for the first 3 years. And don't join the Navy unless you want to spend 7 months to a year at a time on a boat seeing nothing but water. Go Air Force -- no one comes close.

Nope. Go talk to a recruiter, as they can explain to you how the Navy and will help you pay for college- even to an advanced degree. The benefits of the modern Navy are many. With sign up bonuses and tuition benefits, service can set you up for a much better career in the the long run. I am sending off my own son in about two weeks. His reply to the recruiter after we carefully examined the benefits offered was "I want to do something positive with my life... why not start with the Navy!"

well, put it this way. if you go first, they can actually help pay for some of your tuition. if you choose to be a life long sailor then it could pay out for you. understand why you are joining the navy. career or something else? if you go after college, many recruiters and HR people look kindly upon military personnel and would make finding work a little easier. also depends on what you are going to do in the navy. as well.

It depends on whether you want to be an officer or not. If you want to be skilled in a trade or profession, then you might want to go in as an enlisted before college. If you want to be an officer, which would be more management, then wait and go in as an officer after college, but be sure to pick a degree that the Navy can use. Check with your local recruiter and he can give you degree ideas.

This is just my personal opinon....
I came into the millitary enlisted. It was cool at first cause all my friends were still back home living with mom. Well 4 years later I started to relize I have people the same age as me that are telling me what to do and I have to salute them and call them sir. That kinda sucks.
I am glad I didnt come in as an officer though. I wouldnt have changed anything. In the officer world there is a lot of politics and butt kissing going on in order to make rank.
In the end its up to you but from what I have seen yeah officers get paid more but they have a lot more bs they have to go through to make it through there career.

If you want to be an officer, definitely go to college first (heck, look into NROTC is you're really interested in being an officer). but I don't see any sense in waiting till after college just to enlist. Good luck and Go Navy!

I say yes. I've had lots of friends in the military who have regretted going into the service as a private & getting nothing but shat on the whole time by their superiors. Get your degree and if you still want to join, you can go in as an officer. Good luck!

You will have better advancement in the military if you do earn a degree - whether before or after you join.
