First of all if this the first time you have given him a bath I suggest you get large rubber gloves. Have a small pool of water waiting in the sink or tub. Hold your cat by the struff of the neck and lower him into the water. If they fight keep a good grip on there neck and they shouldn't be able to get away. Then quickly shampoo and rinse with your free hand. Have a towel ready and then help towel dry the cat.

I strongly suggest going to the pet store and buying a shampoo that is made for cats. Normal shampoo can give them a rash or burn their eyes. Otherwise, you are right on. Stick your cat in the tub, rub the shampoo on, rinse well and dry!
I've had to give my cats a bath when they've got into sticky stuff or oil. I only put an inch or two of water in the tub and then poured that water over them with a cup. They didn't like it and they cried, but it wasn't that bad.
Good luck!

If you teach your cat early to take baths, they won't like them, but will tolerate them. Make sure you buy a shampoo made for cats that does not have tea tree oil in it. (some cats are allergic)
I lock my cat in the bathroom and have a couple of inches of warm water in the tub. QUICKLY get them wet and shampoo with cat shampoo. I use a large plastic cup to rinse off. Then I have a couple of towels ready to scoop them up and a good rub to dry off. I also use my hair dryer to get them a little more dry.
It is an adventure everytime.

Mariah's advice for hollding the cat is the same process that worked for me when I had to clean my soapy furred cat Opie (post flea combing!). I filled a large plastic bucket with lukewarm water and set it in the tub. I brought the cat into the tub, and placed his two front feet on the far edge of the tub, GENTLY but firmly holding them together with my left hand. He was pretty well immobilized at this point and I quickly rubbed water over him to get the soap off and rinsed him with handfuls of water. It was a miserable experience for Opie, and I now make sure to rinse the flea comb in water before continuing!

it's not reccomended that you bathe a cat often or really at all because they keep themselves clean. however, we had to use some flea shampoo on mine and it definitely takes two people! get some rubber gloves and have everything ready and do this as quickly as you can. have some grab the cats legs and hold them as they gently lay them on their back into the water. wash and rinse quickly while the person is holding them, grab towel and then grab the wet cat!!! drug them if you can and if you consult your vet your won't hurt them. dry off excess water and let them go. warning: they will be pissed for a while!

It takes two people, at least for my cat it does. Have one person wrap a towel around all her/his legs (so they can't scratch you or the other person) This person just holds all the legs together and holds them in some bath water (already have the water ran) then just use a cup and gte the kitty wet and use your pet soap or whatever you wanna use and lather him/her up and then pour some water over to rinse him/her off well the other person continues to hold the kitty. . . . . . . . Do all this as quickly as possible. Then your finished. Goodluck.

Giving a cat a bath is a bad idea!! unless it is a flea bath! Cats lick themselves to clean, and if you wash him, you will take all the oils and stuff off of the cat.
Let the cat clean itself, that is why they can bend over soo good! ;)

Put a little bit of mineral oil in your cat's eyes before the bath. To help keep soap out of eyes.

You don't because they don't like water. They clean themselves. The licked themselves to death to get them clean. Don't ever try to give a cat a bath it would probably scratch and hiss at you alot. Hope that helps!

It's best to put them in the sink and hold them by the scruff of the neck with one hand and wash them and rinse them with the other. Kepp a towel within reach so you can dry them off.
