Steve Holly's---Brand New Girlfriend, listen to it...it's a good one.
First, listen to lots of country music, its good for every soul, no matter how anti-country you may be.
Find something you LOVE to do and go for it 100%, it will take your mind of the jerk for at least some time.
And just give it time, you'll move on, but try not to talk or see them too much, if you do, it just makes moving on harder.

Finding someone new as soon as possible worked for me.
Even if it was only for a one night stand.
The excitement of someone new takes your mind off the ex real fast.
Of course that depends on how old you are and how involved you were. If it was a long time relationship and you were heavily involved with kids and all, then try to start over with a fresh new life, and find other things that interest you & that are fun to do to take your mind off the ex. Make new friends and travel etc.
Avoid your ex and the places you would go to together at all cost, the less you think about the ex the better.
But if you must see the ex because of children, then keep it brief, say as little as possible, and keep it civil, to avoid fighting which just prolongs the agony. Keep thinking positive and move on.
Good Luck!!

Change everything.
Home, clothes, job, routine.
Make everything new.
Let nothing exist that will make him come to mind!
