If you've ever had road rash or rug burn before, you know it is hard to heal, as the skin remains raw for a while (won't scab immediately.) Therefore, it is very prone to infection. How do you prevent infection and promote healing? (bonus points for organic/homemade remedies.)

There is a cream that is called Silvadean. (May not be spelled right but that is how it is pronounced.) They use it on burn patients and diabetics, and also on road rash. It is applied in a thin layer several times a day and it is like majic. Daughter had major road rash and this helped to clear it up in just a few weeks, with very little scarring. P.S. will also cool down a sun burn

any wound, road rash to paper cuts, heal better, quicker and with less risk of infection if they are kept clean and covered. Clean the wound gently with soap and water, apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment, or silvadene cream, and cover with a sterile dressing. Change the dressing daily. I recommend Telfa dressings as they will not stick to the wound.

I feel your pain, been there done that. Definitely keep it clean, try using an anti-bacterial soap. Keep it covered when going out into environments that are spawning germs, but while at home keep it uncovered to let it dry out and form a scab, that's the quickest way to let it heal is just air drying.

Sorry - no organic/homemade remedy here. I used a store brand "Triple Antibiotic Ointment Plus!" (plus pain reliever). It was doctor recommended and it worked for me.
