I am not inquiring about which cultures greet with kisses and such; I want the reasoning behind it!

Thank you!

What's the reasoning for handshake? Hug? Bow? Any kind of cultural greeting? There is no reason. You're born into a culture so you greet people the way everyone greets each other.

Honey down here in Miami FL. if you dont kiss someone to greet them...its like recieiving a brand new Doge Viper from your wife and NOT saying thank you for such a great gift. Its just POLITE and common courtesy. Simple as that. Although when i first came down here it was so weird because where i come from you dont kiss people on the cheek...you simply say hi or shake their hand.

It is customary to greet with a kiss in South America. In my country, which has European culture, you would kiss your relatives, your friends, sometimes your co-workers, or somebody you just met through one of your friends, only, not everybody. The reason would be some kind of affection towards each other, but you see your boss, your neighbor, the mail person, etc, every day, and you don't kiss them, you just say "hi, how are you?". There has to be some affection to kiss each other.

I greet my friends and depart from my friends (guys and girls) with kisses because I love them. I never know when that might be my last time to see them.....so I take advantage when I can. I also tell my friends I love them when I hang up the phone. I am just close with the people I care about I guess.

In some cultures it's the way one would greet someone instead of shaking hands. I don't think there's reasoning behind it at all.

Ahhhh greet by giving a peck on each cheek....tried that in Junior High with my best friend.....went through the rest of junior high and High School branded as "lesbians" I don't know the reasoning...just wanted to share my humiliating story...

Hi

May be that is due to the cold climate or cold regions where the warmth of the body is necessary. The pheromones secreted by each other are good enough to rev up the adranaline and tone up the muscles.

Or may be ladies want to check, whos cheek is smooooooth? Mine or yours. No, no! Don't look at my hubby. I do not trust him! ;-)

Cheek kissing is a ritual or social gesture to indicate friendship, perform a greeting, to confer congratulations, to comfort someone, or to show respect. It doesn't necessarily indicate sexual or romantic interest.

maybe they dont want to get close enough to hug, because i think a quick peck on the cheek is beter then like touching there whole botty together, but yes i believe that ugly people love to give kisses and get kissed back even if it is by a relative.
