What we do with the little kids who get shots is tell them to look away and pretend to blow out birthday candles. Not only are they not paying attention to the needle, but the deep breathing helps too.

In the case of the dentist - try closing your eyes and thinking about something else entirely. I plan my vacation when I'm in the dentist's chair. Remember to keep your breathing steady and calm - almost meditate like that.

Thinking about it is a LOT worse than doing it. I can tell you from experience.

My father was once within the parachute regiment for the duration of the moment global conflict. He used to inform me that a few infantrymen nonetheless courageous and difficult they're had been scared to dying of needles and a few even handed out. This might not be a predicament when you virtually desire to become a member of the navy. When they stick a needle in you simply do not seem.

TELL them you are AFRAID of needles, maybe they can use an alternative, like the "laughing gas", or ask for a Numbing Paste to be put where they plan to put the novacaine, the paste will numb Just the outside of the gum, so you won't FEEL the needle... or even just put you totally Under for the proceedure.. In any case, if you talk to them, believe me, they WILL find a way to work with you to get the work done without you running for the hills... That's one of the things they deal with Every Day...

I too am scared of needles..

I try to stay calm, but I know that a needle is coming...BUT think of it this way...I would rather have 2-3 seconds of a needle pinch than FEEL that dental work, which can be 100x more painful
