No, sad to say that many Christians have to share the blame for negativeness towards Christianity.
The same is true for other religions as well

Conservative Christians control the media, so they are to blame for the negativity towards religions, mostly Islam.

Only Christianity itself bears that blame. When some members of the religion regularly attack others verbally, try to take away people's rights, harshly (and unintelligently) criticize entire fields of scientific knowledge, make racist statements in a religious context, threatening others with eternal suffering in hell for not accepting their way of thinking, act self-righteously, and/or supporting the establishment of a fascist government in the U.S., it reflects very badly on the religion.

I'd certainly say it deserves the blame when the vast majority of its members refuse to stand up against this hypocrisy. If only the true Christians would dissociate themselves and their religion from these hate-mongers, maybe then they might redeem themselves. But when they, instead, sit by silently and use their support for political gain, it only implicates the religion.

I will accept that "the media" are occassionally guilty of "spinning" stories to suit their particular political leanings, but with the exception of everything in 'The Weekly World News' & "Dog Bites Man", I can't think of another media outlet that just "make stuff up", so I think we can place the blame firmly on the shoulders of Christianity.

P.S. Nice crisp observation, Will. Ah, Voltaire. What a shame he can't run for President! I think, even as a dead man, he would make a great candidate!

yes. What negativity is more consistant than that against Christianity? They group Christians into one hated, intolerable group, when Christian Denominations are as diverse as the colors in a crayon box! The media(for the most part)is a godless industry, therefore, they respect no religion fully. The STORY is all that matters!

I think it is much less the fault of the media than it is of the wild eyed, bible thumping fundies who want to shove their faith down the throats of those who don't believe like they do.

We are seeing the same phenomena with radical fundamentalist Muslims. It is not the media that is causing negative attitudes towards radical fundamentalist Muslims, but rather the attitude that they are doing the world a favor by killing the infidels.

Christians are to blame for the negative reaction to Christianity.

The US was founded in opposition to Christianity. Despite all the lies to the contrary, the founding fathers did not mention Jesus or Christianity for a very good reason. They had no intention of establishing a "Christian nation."

And their decisions had nothing to do with the "media."

no, i think christians are making christianity look bad. you can't blame the media for everything. i can honestly say i have literally been interrogated by christians about what i believe and pestered repeatedly to convert. i've learned that some (not all) but some of them just don't know how to respect other people's beliefs. i cannot stand being preached to and 'reminded' how i am damming my children etc..... it's gotten rediculous. so there, i think christians are bringing it on themselves. actions speak louder than words.

i think the media brings around a lot of problems. many people see the news as showing everyone the "truth" in things but what people dont realize is that they are a business too. if they dont have stories to interest their customers, they will make stories or they will take stories and inflate them to bigger than what they are. also, they arent going to show what really happens because their audience might not want to hear that so they always show the side of what their audience wants. notice how fox and cnn are different. same news just two sides.

Negativity towards Christianity?! Ha ha ha ha ha!

All the time I hear another sob story about "Christians being persecuted". It's a bunch of bull! Otherwise, why would our country be predominantly Christian? It's Christians that garner negativity towards Muslims, Jews, Atheists, etc.
