With a pet, talk to your child about how to treat it gently. I'm assuming this is a cat or dog. If it's a calm creature, take your child's hand and help him stroke the fur softly. It will be a while before he/she has the motor control to pet without banging.

In general, make sure your kid knows you love him even if you have to attend to something else. Talk to him about what you're doing. Maybe try a baby sling so he can see what you're up to. If possible, let him help a little bit. This helps kids feel like they make a contribution to the family and also encourages them to have a positive outlook on helping from early on.

That is normal. My daughter however is developmentally delayed and is 5 years old. She has just started to scream when I get on the phone and if I put a movie on for her then go downstairs to do the laundry, it just takes her a few minutes to realize that I'm not there & she will run to find me. Normal kids should outgrow this behavior by the time they are 4 years old. So there's nothing to worry about. And you shouldn't disipline him for wanting your attention, especially at 1 years old.

Time for some tough love. (Why in the world did you get a pet with a one year old?)

That's what toddlers do, and it will get worse before it gets better. He is not yet old enough to understand his emotions and the roles of everyone in the family. If it upsets you, talk to your doctor about it.

Well, by the time he's a teenager, he'll hate you & his dad. He won't tell you anything and he'll be gone all the time...so enjoy it while it last.
