Highest Ranking Marine ( Officer ): Commandant of the Marine Corp ( usually a 4 Star General )
*note: current Armed Forces Chief of Staff is a Marine General...this is a post appointed by the President and can go to any service branch member.

Highest Ranking Marine ( Enlisted ) Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps

Now, in between the ENLISTED and OFFICERS, there is a category called WARRANT OFFICERS> These are specialty personnel who warrant the rights as officers, but come from the enlisted ranks. They rate higher than any enlisted, but are considered lower ranking than a 2nd Lt. Rankings as such go from Warrant Officer to Chief Warrant Officer 5....In fact, they are the ONLY Officers in the Marine Corps authorized to wear a Campaign COver ( DI "Smoky Bear" )
