i used to think that the word for this was agnostic, but i found out today that agnostic is when you just aren't sure if there is a god or not. i want to know the word for someone who is sure there IS a god, but that's it (i.e., no religious affilation). THANKS.

I think that what you're referring to could be considered 'agnostic theism' which is the belief that there is a god, but still not knowing, i.e., waiting for proof, but still having faith that one exists.
The most general definition of agnosticism works for what your asking, but as you already know, a stricter definition leaves no room.

Albannach got that one right. I do fall into this category, but I identify as Deist. Deists do not really consider their beliefs about a higher power a religious affiliation perse. It's a gray area to many.
