When put side by side, is there an instance a gold metal can snuff off the glimmer from a silver metal?

Like when you put a gold ring and a silver ring on the same finger, especially on the ring finger of the left hand. The silver(sterling) ring seems "dying" of its brilliance as it appears corroded, and the gold ring is having a "richer" hue.
